I presently run a RX6800 with a 5900x and primarily use it for MSFS2020.

I bought the 6800 shortly after it was released for a bit over retail.

I notice the RX 6900xts are dropping in price and even the 6950xts are holding steady in price.

Has anyone here jumped from a 6800 to a 6900xt or even 6950xt, and if so, has it been a noticeable difference?

I run the rig with a great Samsung G9 49" widescreen at 5120x1440.

Thanks for any input.

I did. I actually went from the 6800 to the 6800 xt to the 6900 xt. The 6800 xt and 6900 xt are noticeably better. Overclocking just furthers the difference. It's not a huge leap, but for me it was the difference of hitting 144fps more often at settings I like. All comes down to price though. If you have to pay more than 200-250 though, I'd pass.

I have not done that specific upgrade but I do run a 5900x and a 6900XT and use MSFS 2020 occasionally.

I still get frame drops and stuttering when flying low around built up towns in VR using the Reverb G2 headset.

While I do think you will get an improvement by upgrading, if you are using a high res VR headset you would be better to wait for the new GPUs for MSFS specifically.

Full disclosure, I am an RC heli guy, I only got MSFS to check it out. It's not a great interest for me so I have not tried Open XR toolkit which may well improve and sway my oppinion regarding performance, if only I could be bothered to set it up. :)

I did early in RDNA 2's life cycle. It was an appreciable jump, but it didn't put the 6800 to shame. I can't recall numbers off the top of my head. The 6900 XT was around 20% faster though if I had to put a number on it.

When I got my 6800XT for some reason running it next to a 5600xt caused it to overheat badly. It wouldn't detect or anything so I had to RMA it. Knowing it was gonna take forever I went on the hunt for another GPU. I was driving from Massachusetts to Texas for vacation so I checked out Craigslist for every major city along the way. Finally in Ft Worth TX I found a Powercolor 6900xt, I think I paid $1800 for it.

The RMA process for the 6800XT involved them sending the replacement to the original buyer. Luckily I still had his number and he helped me out, no problem.

I currently have a 6800XT and though I was tempted to go with a 3090 or 6900. Figured it was best to wait for next gen to upgrade. A 100%+ possible in performance is something to wait for. Also since I normally have a 1000watt PSU(replacing it soon, it is 12 years old) power usage should not be a issue. Though if rumors of the 4090 using 600+ watts I might go with team red again.

For the price, the 6950 xt is way over the top, for little gains.

But with the horrible prices, all the quality 6900xt are way over priced, and there's even cheaper baseline 6950xt 's.

IDK how many company must have a stack of $1500 6900xt's, who's actually buying them? Do they still sell ? Only the most desperate and well-off gamers must buy those.

How many months rent is that for a lot of people ? I don't want to go back to PS/xbox for gaming, but I won't be surprised if the basic 4080 is 1100-1200*, worse than 2000 series.

*At least in the stores that is, I'm still expecting it to be jacked up through supply limiting....sell less for higher.

Well I made the jump to a reference AMD 6950XT. EK had a BIG sale on the classic 6900/6950 wb so the card is now under water.

Significant jump in fps for MSFS2020. I have my rig pretty much dedicated to MSFS 2020 (Cessna flight stick, rudders, 6 pack of Logitech Flight panels etc all housed in A Flight Velocity panel.
I am using a Samsung G9 5120x1440 49" monitor.

For the MSFS 2020 posters they can vouch that gpu power really affect the experience.

The stock cooler on the reference 6950XT is very good and beefy. I was at @77C gpu and 103 GPU hotspot when maxing it out in MSFS.

Now with the custom block max gpu temp is in the low 50s with hotspot at MAX 70.
