There's so much power running through these cards, I would be surprised if any cards are completely free of it.

Some people can hear it, some people can't.

I'm awaiting delivery of my 4090 TUF so I'll know then. Coil whine hasn't bothered me much in the past as I use headphones for gaming.

And it's not really a problem while rendering (haven't noticed any with my 3090 Ti though).

I've never seen a GPU without coil whine. One GTX 1050 was kind of close, but this card pulls no power. All higher end NVIDIA cards that I had, so 980 Ti, both 1080s and both 2080Tis had very similar levels of coil whine. They would be unusable if kept in very open case or/and close to me, especially on a desk and on ear level like a lot of people do it, but with very enclosed case with external watercooling and case placed a bit away in the corner of the room lower than ear level and side and back of the case facing away, it is just about tolerable. Still audible, but not terrible. And gets whole lot worse after OC, when limited to 250W there is very little whine, but that's 15% slower than OC, so no go.

And then there were some cards like R9 390X I briefly had that were completely unusable, coil whine was so extreme that you could hear it in the next room through the wall. And funny thing was that this card (Sapphire Nitro) was advertised with some anti-whine black-something chokes or something like that. Complete e-waste card in every possible way, not just whine.

Coil whine is massive problem in general, you can theoretically make completely quiet system with external watercooling by moving all mechanical parts out of the room, but you are not getting around coil whine and it will always make completely silent system impossible.

I have also a Asus Tuf 4090 it makes small coin whine just when i start a game which dont need much power or high fps. Its not loud but if case is open and your head is near to it it sounds ****. I dont know what to do send it back and hope in some months i get a new one? I get it for 1950 in germany now prices much higher or they dont have cards anymore. I mean if i buy a otherone would it bee better? For me i can life with it - its not loud but if i sell it in some years i dont know what people say to it.

So I got my card (TUF) and the coil whine is bad. However it's almost inaudible with case fans at near max and cannot be heard at all at 100%. I have only had time to test it with Time Spy Extreme, so frames were well over 100.

I must admit it is the worst coil whine I've ever heard from a GPU but it seems to be pretty widespread across all 4090s.

For gaming I don't expect to notice it with my headphones.

Got some on my Gigabyte 4090 Windforce. Doesn't really bother me, but I can hear it during high framerates.

I deal with it by having sound on, either through my display or headphones. Either of which blocks it out completely.

Wonder if those that voted no coil whine know what to hear for and if they do, what card has ZERO coil whine. Looks like right now FE and Gigabyte have the best results in regards to coil whine. I just know from past experience not everyone is sensitive to coil whine. I on the other hand cannot stand it and it drives me nuts. I water cool all my components and hear even the slightest coil whine. I really would like to purchase a 4090 and hopefully I get some insight on what card to buy.

I switched from the TUF to the Gigabyte Gaming OC and can confirm the Gigabyte is much quieter. It's probably a good bet.

The coil whine on the TUF was unlike anything I'd ever heard before.

I'm yet another victim of TUF 4090 coil whine. It was the worst I ever heard in my life. Returned. This was so frustrating as my TUF 3080 is pretty much perfect. I'm so sick of this coil whine lottery with GPUs.

Going to wait a bit longer to pull the trigger. So far Gigabyte seems to be the best bet in trying to avoid Coil Whine. Lets see how the AMD cards perform and then make our decision on which card to buy for 4k gaming.

Not surprising when these cards are pulling that much power.

Can confirm that my ASUS 4090 has an horrible coil whine, can't return it for that here in Chile though

My MSI Gaming Trio has a bit of coil whine. It's not too bad since I keep the glass side panel to my case closed and I sit about 10 feet away from the PC. My Corsair H170i Elite 420mm cooler pump is far more annoying compared to the coil whine from the 4090.

Tried two cards so far:
ASUS 4090 TUF - Crazy coil whine which I could hear all across the room even at low fps just as long as the power draw was over ~150W. Headphones did block out the whine but I enjoy playing on my TV or with speakers which was a no go.
Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC - Miles less whine than the TUF. Sure, if I bench and fps numbers are very high then yes, it's there but when gaming at 144fps I can't hear it over the case fans even when using speakers.
