The older Z690 boards is now forgoten by Asus. Nice to see there is some good soules there out that put in some work for the old.
Yeah- I upgraded to the first 23** beta bios on my z690 extreme before realizing that downgrades were not possible. I've been regularly checking the ASUS downloads page for the full release close to two months now. Rather disappointed.

I think Asus realized that their BIOS 2204 thunderbolt firmware update to NVM36 has unleashed chaos for many users with thunderbolt equipment, and they are now working behind the scenes to understand and remedy the situation before pushing out another BIOS.

The ASUS z690 webpage for z690 motherboards with thunderbolt now states in the release notes: "Thunderbolt 1/2 devices will no longer be supported by BIOS 2204 due to a change made by Intel® regarding the update of Thunderbolt firmware to NVM 36". This note was not there in December 2022, so users such as myself who unwittingly updated to 2204 in Dec. had no clue about this. Also, how do you release an update to a thunderbolt controller that disables connectivity to older "thunderbolt" devices without warning or explanation? I thought thunderbolt was backwards compatibile? Why change the behavior in the middle of the life cycle of z690? Also NVM36 has some other severe issues especially when XMP is on...putting the system to sleep and waking the system while a thunderbolt device is still physically connected results in controller malfunction and the disconnection of all thunderbolt devices connected to the bus. If you have NVME storage connected to the bus, the storage will disappear from the system when the system resumes from sleep, which could result in data loss.

In fact there now exists a beta BIOS to undo the NVM update and roll it back to the previous version. And the previous version has none of the problems described above. This is a tacit acknowledgement that there are issues with the NVM update.

So I want to believe the reason why it is taking so long for a final release update to 230* is because Asus recognized the boo-boo and wants to get it right.

problem is that some ppl complain that hardware entusiasts put out test bios and thats bad for some reason thats bad.......................????

iam shure there is a 2305 for all the lineup not only for the APEX z690, none the less there should be a new bios soon for the new memory density modules, and down the road for the raptorlake refresh

cheers
I just looked for my MB and this shows.

not that I am going to update because can't go back to older versions.

is there someone who tried 2305, is there regressions from 2204?

For anyone interested in staying more up-to-date with BIOS developments, I had no issue at all cross-flashing z790 bios onto my z690 using Elmor EV2.. any SPi flasher would do fine also of course. Used 0022 as it includes AVX512 ucode15 mod for my 12900k, but it now fully accepts upgrade path for z790 bioses. I applied relevant ME update first.
Set vs. effective SA and IMC are around 15mv lower with 0021 compared to 0001 and 2204, for 7400c32 ycruncher, otherwise seems pretty much same. I can post 8400c34 havent had time to stabilise.
next up, have a known really good 13600K arriving, and have decent adie already, so will finally find out just where this 2022/1 board tops out.
back later...xoxo

Sorry if I missed it previously. But where are you seeing this?

Because Intel wanted the older Z690 chipset out from the sales channels. And this also the reason we will see less and les updates for in short EOL motherboards. So desktop motherboards ain't much different than Laptops Jokebooks. All is about push you over on the next new even if the changes is minimal.

Intel reportedly phasing out its Z690 and B660 chipsets

Oh interesting. Thank you for that. I looked for it previously (after I read your post) and didn't see it on their page.
I think it only poped up today or late last night.
There is also a new LAN driver for those with disconnect issues. they released the same version number last week so not sure what changes are in this one.

Never had an issue flashing between 2.xx bios versions. There is a setting in the bios that unless disabled you can't downgrade any bios whatsoever

anyone have knowledge if 2305 is the update for larger memory modules? not as yet seeing any updates on the memory pages in support.

Strix Z690a d4. Haven’t tried 2305 yet but can definitely go up to 2301 and back down again
Which setting did you modify in the BIOS to enable you to roll back from 2301 down to 2204 or below? The rest of us have been stuck on 230* for weeks. When you try to read the prior BIOS file, it errors out and says "not a proper BIOS."

From what I have seen it is the ddr5 MB that arent allowing going backwards. I also have a z690 Strix d4 and I could flash back to older bioses from 2301. It seems strange the ddr4 MB would allow it but the ddr5 wont but the feedback I have seen saying they cant flash to older bioses has been on ddr5 MBs.

I have a z690 Apex but I havent used it in a couple month so i havent tried the 2301 or newer bioses on it. I also have a z790 Apex and it is the same thing with some of the newer bioses I cant flash back to older bioses.

2305 is a available on asus website for z690 extreme and other models now.

I wonder if I need need update Intel ME to version 16.1.25.2124 for this beta bios version. At least for the Z790 boards they recommend that you update ME FW 16.1.25.2124 first in windows

Regression block still active on DDR5 boards?
