Upgrading from a 980ti, IDK what GPU to get.

Hay folks my main PC has a 980ti in it. nice card but its a kinda hot GPU. I main goal for the upgrade is to get a cooler card. Say 180w or lower.
My home is so well insulated that the heat form the 980ti can heat the whole house up by a lot, I end up having to run the AC a lot when useing my PC sooo yeah droping 50-100w off my PC would save about 20-30$ a month if my math is right.

My budget is around 100$ so I'll be buying used. I'm also in no rush to get the card so if that means low balling on ebay for a month or two I'm fine with that. intal cards are out of the question as I play a lot of DX9 and older games, some of witch are GPU heavy. I also don't want anything slower. But the card does not need to be faster.
I was thinking of getting a 2060, but IDK about the amd side of things.

What are your thoughts?

BTW my CPU is a 12100f. and no I do not want to under volt.

I only play dx9 and older games at 1600x1200p@75hz

With a 980 Ti and a budget of $100 to upgrade, I would just keep the 980 Ti until you are really ready for an upgrade. Save your money.

The 980ti would be roughly of the performance level of the GTX 1070, which is roughly around the same performance of the 1660ti. The 1660 Super lags behind in some titles, and offers less efficiency based on the old launch reviews.

I would also keep a look out for RTX 2060 Super to 2070 Super cards on the used market, some do drop down to the $120 range, but they tend to push about 50-60w more than the 1660ti, but still 80w less than the 980ti.

I personally would not go with a performance loss, like the 1060 6g. At the minimum a sidegrade like the 1660ti or 1070 would be what I would look at. Or a slight upgrade like a 2060 Super which still has a considerable decrease in power draw and heat...

IDK I seen more then a few 2060 sold around 100$ on ebay, granted I was looking at turbo cards. I hate non blower cards as the fans always go bad.... But the goal here is to save power and lower heat output. If I spend more then 100$ the card sure better be pulling less then 100w to make it worth wile.

I'll keep an eye out for the 2070 and 5600XT! I never thought of a 1660ti , I thought it was a lot slower then a 980ti. How would it match up to a 980ti at 1200p with DX9 games? I only play older games, all DX9 or lower, dose anyone think a 1660 ti would be worth wile to get for dx9 games and at 1200p?

Also keep in mind that GTX 10xx + cards can be undervolted pretty effectively with curve to reduce power and temperature with minimal loss in performance if any.

A stock 980ti should be right around 1660 perf (it was ~88% of a 1070 when the 1070 dropped, the 1660 is 88% of a 1070, too). The 1660S/Ti are both ~1070 perf. All three cards should be much better in terms of heat/power compared to the 980ti.

A $100 5700xt or blower 2060 wouldn't be bad if you can get one.

5700XT is, imo, probably your best bet, as already stated by others.

That said, I'd personally want to upgrade to something a little more substantial.

I guess that's just my personal bias talking, haha.

If you're not particularly worried about good performance in modern games, and just want equal-ish performance to your 980Ti while using considerably less power, a 1660Ti will perform very similarly, only has a 120W TDP, and can be had on eBay for $100-$120 ish.

Come back in 5-10 years. When i bought my pc, i tought myself, okay, till nvidia 4-5000 series no need to upgrade, well considering how everything went out of whack now with prices, im gonna consider buying something in 5 years, maybe.

I would grab a 1080ti, I use to own one, was an awesome card. Just because the max TDP is listed, doesn't mean it uses that in game.

Yeah the 1080 looks like a good match. I tossed a few bids on some 1080s a 2060 and a 1660ti, hopefully I win one.
I rather not pay more then 100$ since the goal here is to save money on my power and AC bill. So I foresee lots of low ball bids in the coming weeks lol

If buying on ebay, I recommend only bidding in the last minute or two for auctions. Bidding early will only increase the price of the card with slim to no chance that you will win the card. I just check auction, filter with the highest price that I am willing to pay, and sort by ending soonest. That filters out a good amount. Then add to watchlist. You may not be able to keep track of them all and bid at the closing time, but I find it much better than bidding early and just seeing the price creep out of what im willing to pay. In the last minute, you bid what you are willing to pay, not just try to edge out the current bid. So if the current bid is $70, and youre willing to pay $100 for the card, bid $100, it will only increase one increment over the highest bid. I got a 3070 the other day for $230 shipped using this method, where I was willing to pay $250 for the card, and current bid was $220.

Also, just periodically check the Buy it Now sorted by price... some people just want their stuff gone, and post it up for a more than fair price.

The 1080 is a good card, I have been using mine for a few years. I put a slight undervolt on it to reduce power at no performance loss. It performs very similar to the 2060, but 2060 is 35w lower power draw.
