I haven't tried their basic 90 degree cable. However I sure wish they would respond to my two support requests about the "straight" EVGA-style PSU-to-12VHPWR cables of theirs I did purchase in the last 2 months (JUST before they redesigned how they are wiring up the sense pins to fix the blackscreen issues everybody is reporting).

I imagine they are quite busy but it has been a week now. I want to hear from them about what they are going to do about replacing the two 12VHPWR cables I already have that they know have a defective sense pin implementation before I spend any more money with them.

In the meantime, I have a MODDIY 90-degree EVGA-2x8-input-to-12VHPWR cable. And a week of research to the effect that not one single issue has been documented for those with MODDIY 12VHPWR cables. This rig has an EVGA-type PSU so we have to work within those parameters.

I'd rather have a black/blue sleeved Cablemod one there to match the rest of the kit but safety and reliability is more important.

I"m struggling to keep the faith in Cablemod, to be honest.

Will be putting that MODDIY cable in Trogdor this evening unless/until Cablemod takes some action to help me out with their defective cables, not not just posting in public to encourage me to file a support request to get my cables replaced (umm.... been there, done that? Still waiting for the t-shirt....?)

EDIT: MODDIY's 12VHPWR cable collection (they have ones with 90-degree connectors that are known-good). Performance PC's carries some of these also.

I read thru the faq section and it states wires are crimped and not soldered to connector. Be nice if it was soldered.

I can't remember where I saw it now but it was one of the people/groups who investigated the initial outbreak of cable connectors melting with 12VHPWR cables, this I know for sure was one of the OEM 4x8pin to 12VHPWR Nvidia adapter cables -- but one of the things they pointed out that was a problem was how they were soldered.

I got the impression from that that soldering of these connections is undesirable for 12VHPWR but not sure.

I'll dig up some of the bookmarks I've made along the way about connectors etc. MODDIY has a LOT of FAQ's, drawings, etc. about pins/connectors, etc. on their site that were informative.

Yea i might order one of those 90deg. Havent seen complaints about that brand and pin style. Get one made to go from psu to gpu.

Couple links from MODDIY:

Here is another, pretty sure this is the same article I saw about it last week, or may just be another article talking about it:

I will never buy another cablemod product again after having one of their cables melt and them asking me to send them my GPU for them to 'troubleshoot' rather than actually providing a refund.

Thats not good.
I ordered a 90deg end straight to psu adapter from moddiy lastnight. Give that a shot. That stock
Nvidia adapter just sticks out enough to interfere.

I had seen a number of people mention out there that most people who have the melting connector problems and some even have said, "everybody having problems", is using adapters to adapt 2-, 3-, or 4- 8pin inputs from their PSU to 12VHPWR. I don't know how true that assertion is, but it seems better to me that a cable going straight from the PSU to 12VHPWR was going to be better than connecting them through adapters. But apparently it is also just as important to make sure cables are plugged ALL THE WAY in even when using PSU-to-12VHPWR cables.

I have now heard back from Cablemod from 2 different directions. One of their reddit guys contacted me back yesterday because he had seen my ranty posts on there and wanted to check on the support requests I was posting about (not hearing back from anyone).

I had used their web site to file them with, each time with about a ~30 second "sit and spin" delay after clicking submit, before the page refreshed and told me they were submitted successfully. He couldn't find those. But he did find the one resulting from my email to support@ -- and I got a automated response back too, indicating they had received my message.

This morning I also heard back from a support staffer on this request, they asked me to send some pics/screenshots of my PSU, cables, and purchase receipt for the PSU cable kit I had bought, plus my shipping address. I did ask for both cables I've purchased to be replaced with newer ones that don't have the sense pins/blackscreen problem.

So it sounds like the reason I didn't hear back is some kind of issue with using their website /support page, apparently neither of the requests I tried to submit that way actually made it into their support queue, although they appeared to be processed at the time.

So we'll see what happens. We have our right-angle MODDIY EVGA PSU 2x8pin-to-12VHPWR cable to work with for now, which may or may not be what we just stick with from here but with the research I've done, I have a high level of confidence in it. The Cablemod cables? Not sure about. I really do feel better about a 90-degree cable, that we won't have to slightly bend or twist to keep the 12VHPWR end away from the side glass.

Yep. Thats the way i figure it. Less connection points the better. I went with 3 - 8pin to 90deg 12vhp connector. Not sure if only 2 - 8pin is all you need. I think corsair has a 2 - 8pin to 12v but no 90deg end.

yep, I would have rather had an EVGA PSU to 12VHPWR that used 3 or 4 of the 8-pin outputs of my PSU but I couldn't find one on the MODDIY site. (and not just for EVGA PSU's). But they seem to be confident in their wire and connectors and, well, when you apparently have ZERO documented cases of problems, I guess that confidence is warranted.

Well the menu i was on you could select the length of cable you wanted, type of cable like sleeved or not and comes woth 3 wire combs and you manually enter what psu model you have and the max 8 pin was 3. My psu is rm1000x. There was no 4 -8pin option.

Nice! Was that under custom? I started looking at custom but I balked when I saw that there was no returns allowed on custom made cables. I mean, I wouldn't generally return something custom anyway, unless something was wrong with it. Just wasn't sure if that was covered or not.

I hope Cablemod gets things worked out. I do like them, it has just been a bit eye-opening lately.

This is one more article I saw at MODDIY which summarizes the findings of Igor's lab investigation into the Nvidia-distributed PCIE 8pin-to-12VHPWR adapters.

I believe this is the other article I had seen on the subject.

Cablemod has agreed to replace the (2) 12VHPWR sleeved EVGA PSU-to-12VHPWR "straight" cables we bought before they changed how they wire the sense pins (in August) with one custom sleeved cable (3 8-pin EVGA PSU inputs) with an A-type 90 degree connector on the end. Will have to wait a month for them to make it and send it.

In the meantime we have the MODDIY one. Will have to decide whether to use replacement Cablemod one when it comes, but we KNOW the ones we had were going to cause (blackscreen) problems.

I thought moddiy was out of states but i seen its coming out of hong kong haha. Hope its here soon to try out. Will def be able to remove lots of cables
Good luck! I'll be firing Trogdor up today, finally finished building the other 2 loops last night and they've been leaktesting overnight. This will be the first time firing up the RTX4090 on the waterblock, also running with the MODDIY cable.

EDIT/PS: Performance PC's does stock many of MODDIY's 12VHPWR cables.

No returns on custom orders is pretty normal. I've used ModDIY a few times despite being located in the UK and they're very communicative when it comes to letting you discuss cabling/offering with them. They're making me a custom 12vHPWR to 2x12 pin for a legacy Corsair PSU (AX Gold), when I dropped them an email asking them to confirm if they had the wiring diagrams for the AX Gold (which are not the same as other Corsair PSUs as they predate Type 3/Type 4) it was literally 5 minutes before the confirmed they could.

I expect if there was an actual fault with a custom order they'd let you refund it no issues.

It turns out that, assuming Cablemod gets this cable into my hands, I am going to have a brand new custom "stealth sense" 90-degree Cablemod 3x8-pin EVGA Supernova PSU to 90-degree 12VHPWR cable for sale.

We simply could not wait any longer and had to buy other cables.

This is the cable they agreed to make for me:

It is supposed to ship out from their factory on the 23rd, so if the last cable they sent direct to me from China via mail is any indication and they keep their word this time, then I will probably have it sometime in early November. Cable will be brand new, unused and exactly as-received from Cablemod.

Will look into how to post in marketplace.
