agreed, the difference between LAME or any other mp3 with my MSTRKRFT cd and ALAC was amazing, the cd went from crud to god like on my ath's,

ALAC is the way to go. the ipod classic doesnt support FLAC, but the 5.5 and below can with rockbox firmware.

Yeah, unluckily I got the classic for the space, hopefully they're figure out how to load code on it.

So is there any easy way you guys have figured out to convert FLAC to Apple Lossless?

Everything thing I've seen (Flac -> wav -> Apple Lossless) seems to lose the id3 tags which upsets me.

Buwaha! i just posted a thread on this, one second.

http://www.overclock.net/sound-cards...-lossless.html

it's an awesome FREE program, you just need to go to the codecs tab and install
the FLAC and ALAC codec [it'll call the ALAC mp4 or w/e]. keeps the tagging fine
and you can even tweak some dsp's! i use it on my nano! :] :]

I use dBpowerAmp. I believe it's free for the most of it, apart from the fast mp3 encoding and the AMG (who the hell needs AMG anyways, freeDB ftw!) - and there's plenty of codecs for it. It (as requested) retains the tags

Then you're ripping it wrong. If you use the exact same settings FLAC vs MP3 in terms of the ripping stage, there's not a major difference.

Looks pretty nice, but why would you want to use DSP's? Most DSP's I've found seems to worsen the quality, and defies the purpose of being a "source"

Well, like I said I was using LAME mp3 and apples mp3 encoding and i hear a notcible difference in FLAC and LAME mp3 encoding, and i set it above 192 [for LAME] with no other settings to affect sound quality. but who cares? i got my FLAC now :]

i don't load any DSP's but you CAN load DSP's, some people would like to using the the db encoder for other file formats :]
