I was poking around the Gigabyte website to see if there was an updated bios for my mobo and noticed they have an @bios utility that will flash the bios from Windows.

http://www.gigabyte.us/FileList/NewT...ech_a_bios.htm

I've used a similar utility from HP to update my laptop's bios and it worked just fine. And I did a search here and found 1 report of something going wrong but that was it. Has anyone else tried @bios?

Yes I have, and it does work. Make sure you turn off HT if you have it on. Besides that, its really easy to use. I have flashed mine about three times since I have owned it. Easy to follow instructions.

EDIT:spelling

Only Core i7 and a few Pentium 4s have HT, Just FYI Jason.

I don't trust it as much as the normal BIOS update utility, many many more things can crash, etc in windows than in a simple BIOS flashing program.

Thanks. I went from a Athlon XP to an i7. So I skipped a few years of processors. Thanks for the information. It is possible that windows could hang, but I haven't had it happen. I used both Vista 64 and W7 64, and neither caused me issues. While it is true that a non windows bios flash is "safer," I wouldnt be too concerned about it. Its a lot safer then it use to be.

I've used it, works without issue and its very easy.

I used it ever since I got my board, never an issue.

I never used it, I always use the bios. It's super easy with these gigabyte boards. All you have to do is put the file on a flash drive, then go into the bios and hit F8, then enter a few times and your done. Can't really get much easier than that.

I love gigabyte boards

, I never thought it would be that easy.

I really don´t see why anyone would try to flash their BIOS through windows. Sure it´s safer than it used to be, but why take a chance... I mean, it´s so easy to do it the "right way". Really, it can´t be any easier with a software. Maybe because you don´t need a flash drive? But that´s it.... put new BIOS into flash drive, restart PC, hit F8, and follow simple instructions.... less than 10 clicks away....
I´m not bashing anyone who does it through windows, I´m just making a point that if in one hand Windows got "safer", on the other flashing through BIOS got easier and faster.

Well its safe with this Gigabyte boards because they have dual bios which means if you mess up flashing, the backup bios just restores the other to the default.

^^I know what you´re saying, but the thing is so easy to do through BIOS (not even DOS) that doing via software is beyond me... and I see the dual BIOS as one of those things that I´m glad to have but hope I never use. And there is less chance of that by doing through BIOS.

Haha, I went from an Athlon XP to a Pentium Dual Core E2180 myself, how is the i7?
