I've had it with this game. I'm generally a fan (and I'm no slouch) at both arcade and sim racers, but I've almost broken several household items in frustration with this game.

It feels like they took the drift mode from other popular racing games and turned that into the regular gameplay. My Porsche Cayman can't even go from 3 to 4th gear on a straight away without the backend fishtailing. I could see that being the case if you hammer on the gas just after a turn in 1st or 2nd gear, but for a "race" car to slide around the track so recklessly, it's ludicrous.

So long rant short, is there a setting or a vehicle or an upgrade or something to make the tracks race like asphalt instead of snow-covered, loose gravel? I want to like the game so badly, partly to justify the purchase, but also because they included some decent cars and did an excellent job with the visuals.

like you, the drift mode utterly pisses me off. i just skip it entirely. umm, i dont know anything about "fixing" the roads but in general just get some good handling upgrades. they are key in that game.

just stick to the races not drifting. you get enough plenty of stars and money that way to advance in the game. ive never finished a drift challenge.

Yeah, I won't even touch the drift mode. But I was saying the regular racing in Shift feels like the drift mode in GRID or NFS:UG2. Maybe it's just the Porsche that sucks, because I bought every single upgrade for it, even the cosmetics and it didn't do much.

For me, if i turn on all the assists and set to casual, it feels like an arcade.
My current settings are steering and brake assists off.

i run it in the enthusiast driver settings with all the auto-help off and it feels fine for me.
also, i use a 360 controller which helps i guess.

Steering Dead Zone-15%
Accel Dead Zone-10%
Brake Dead Zone-10%
Steering sensitivity-5%
Acell Sensitivity -5%
Brake sensitivity-5%
Speed steering Sensitivity 100%

On to the 2nd fix:

At the main menu enter CAR GARAGE----> TUNING, press 'Y' to enter quick tuning mode.
Under the heading 'balance' move the slider all the way to OVERSTEER. That's right oversteer. Apparently the developer labeled this slider wrong or its a glitch. Turning the slider to oversteer will actually add understeer.

The thing is,you cant go below 0 with the numbers on the pc version

I am hoping there is a difference between the pc version and the 360 version in the handling.
I am using the 360 controller, but with every game I play it with on the pc, they seems to be a little bit more sensitive.

I am going to try that

I noticed the same thing with the cayman only, the shelby gt500 and 350z(which is what im driving in the game right now) puts more power at the back wheels but doesn't fishtail as easy...?

Maybe its just the car

guys a little heads up, the Murcielago is the best car on the game.
get it asap

I got into game from the first race but i have to say...they screwed it again. Cars handling like furniture on the ice and no matter what i did with tuning none of configs improved car grip at all. Just for interest got listened to explanation about springs well xD first time it said stiffer improves car understeer and softer oversteer. got on option lower to rear springs and it said "this one is the opposite to front"softer means oversteer and stiffer understeer............BUT THATS THE SAME HE JUST SAID VICE VERSA LOL

well the game overall is interesting to play but things like no grip making it useless so this one is again failed

forgot to say that vinyl system is downgraded compared to UC or underground 2
makes twice as hard to put a straight line through all areas

I am feeling the exact same thing! Graphics, cars and engine sound are AWESOME but handling in Pro mode without assists is AWFUL! Why they didn't put tires in the cars??? It feels like the car is rolling on rims only!! One slight turn in the wheels BOOM oversteer! I bought Cayman and now I can't control it no matter what... I guess I have to turn the assists on in order to complete the game... Too bad... Cars are amazing... It looked promising.

Wow, I didn't realize this thread was still alive. I gave the game to my brother as a gift, though I use that term loosely. I may have to get it back and give those configurations a try.

And ruin Christmas? I think not.

I got it back and tried out dafour's suggestion. I made a few adjustments and sold off the Porsche for the Murcielago. It's actually kind of playable now. Not fantastic, but it'll at least entertain me isntead of raising my blood pressure.

I also grown fustrated with the drift mode of Shift. The first one I did, (career event, Nissan Silvia S14, Spa GP drift) I almost threw the controller at my screen. I could not get first no matter what. The car simply would not drift, and when it actually did, it wasn't when I wanted it to. I did the touge drifting with an AE86 was better, but still, drifting in Shift = fail.
