14th Gen and new Z690 motherboard?

Is it a smart idea to pick a Z690 motherboard with the new 14th Gen processors?

And if so, what would be the downsides?

I'm in the indecision of chosing either the MSI MEG Z690 Ace or ASRock Taichi Lite.

Both kind of have really good features, even the Taichi having a better audio DAC and 5.0 NVMe support but it's not really the brand known for durability and running a system for at least 5 years.

Would something like DDR5 7200 ram with the XMP profile run on the Ace? Even though it says 6666 max?

Just make sure whatever model you get that they have plans to release an updated BIOS that supports 14th gen. I'd imagine you'll need to update the BIOS.

If you buy new Mobo go for the latest, even if others are cheaper, it will be better for everything, i would not pick z690 at this stage for sure.

Maybe you're right, I'm just not that trustful when it comes to ASRock and don't know whether that motherboard will be an issue free choice because I want to use the system for at least for 5 years mainly for music production and secondarily for Gaming with my 3070 Ti.

I've had the Tomahawk in mind but then I'd add the thunderbolt 4 card which is another 100 bucks and I'm at 370 Euro. Also all my PCIe slots will be occupied, like why the hell would they not give another PCIe slot and only one more besides the main Gen5. For example if I'd wanted to install a 10g card.

The other option would be Asus Z790 Proart Creator, which has a lot of features including TB and 10GB but a rather standard powerstage.

I don't want to overclock anyways and just let the 14700K run at it's max performance which according to 36.000 points in Cinebench R23 is already plentiful. But that Proart Powerstage seems to be a little underbuild to run a 14700K always at max power?

for audio editing/production i would rather use an external USB audio interface anyways.
Still like to have something nice on board, my main interface is a Lynx Aurora (n) with thunderbolt and 32 channels plus 2 excellent 👌 headphone amps / outs.

There is no huge difference between Z690 and Z790, and 14th Gen is the last gen for LGA1700.

Most of these Boards have a more than sufficient overengineered power delivery.
Do you think I could go with the Asus Proart Z790-Creator, I'm just worried about the power stage and the 12v input will suffice for the 14900K?

Yeah it would be fine. Unless you plan on running Y-Cruncher all day, the power draw on a 13900K isn’t really that crazy. Personally, I run my 13900K at stock speeds, undervolted, and then crank memory up. Not much gain (or zero) from OCing the CPU; good gains from OCing memory, though.

I have a fairly decent 13900K and you can OC while keeping wattage under 275 in Cinebench (for example) no problem. Depends a bit on silicon lottery but there’s no reason the chip needs to push 300watt.

Intel is a tuner platform. IMO, if you’re just running it stock, you’re either wasting performance or wasting wattage.

why get a dead horse platform when there is X670?
