Hey,
I've had 3440x1440 UW 21:9 monitors for quite some time now and I've gotten quite used to them, but whenever I've played some game on my LG C2 TV, the crispness of the 4K resolution has always been something I've yearned for.
I recently had the chance to try out the 32" MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED and when I launched my first game it was quite spectacular! The image quality combined with OLED and HDR was a big step up from my IPS monitor. Also going back to 16:9 format has some advantages as all games support this aspect ratio and I could finally say goodbye to black bars on the sides of every YT video.
However, when it came to productivity (I work from home from time to time) things weren't as great. Using 100% scaling at 4K is impossible as text is way too small and my eyes got tired very fast. 150% scaling is recommended by Windows which looks good but then I obviously lost workspace area (150% scaling is the same as 2560x1440). I tried 125% instead which equals to 3072 x 1728 meaning I still loose some width but gain some height. Problem is that this scaling is not that comfortable to my eyes which in the end led me to buy the Samsung G8 with its 1st gen QD-OLED UW panel. An upgrade for sure, but I'm still missing out the 4K glory while gaming.
I'm wondering if anyone here took this upgrade path (3440x1440 to 3840x2160) and what you think about 125% scaling. Is the text too sharp for you?
Thanks in advance!
