Everything was running fine with some 13.xx drivers, then I updated to the latest 14.xx 1-2 weeks ago. Then the problem started, and I bet its the low power mode thing thats doing it, when going into sleepmode.

I disabled sleep mode for the whole PC, but not for the monitor. Now still when the videocard is told to powerdown, it freezes the PC and needs a reboot.

I switched back to the 2 last drivers, both still crash my rig.

Any ideas, advice ?

Depends on what you mean by "the latest 14.xx "

Yes. Install Cat 14.9.2. ( http://www.overclock.net/t/1520687/amd-catalyst-14-9-2-beta-driver-for-windows-and-for-civilization-beyond-earth )

14.9.1. was released in response to some (not everyone) users' reports of such crashes with 14.6, 14.7, and 14.9 WHQL.

Make sure to completely 100% uninstall your 13.xx driver before installing (any) 14.xx driver (which the release notes of 14.1, 14.2 and 14.3 mentioned). If you already did that with your "latest", OK.

I had a faulty 7850 card do this (would hard-lock the system or BSoD). The other 7850 cards I've had don't freeze the computer, but occasional the screen just won't wake properly.

Disabling ULPS doesn't help (in my situation; disabling ULPS should also disable ZeroCore).
