what would be the best used cpu for a 1660 Ti?

ok so right now i own a 1660 ti paired with a xeon w3690 overclocked to 4.31Ghz for those who ask its the same as an i7 990x

im just wondering what used cpu would be best for my GPU

im looking to upgrade from my old socket 1366 pc to something better but being that im tight on funds im gonna be buying the parts as i can afford them. so i wanna know which cpu is best and why

keep in mind i game at 1080p

2500k 2700k 3930k 3770k 4930k 4770k 4790k


i know i should buy new but cant afford as new cpu

would a 3930k bottleneck a 1660ti?

edit i want a minimum of 16-24 gigs of ram

What refresh rate is your current monitor? As Karch already stated, do you have a specific budget in mind?

If your current monitor is limited to 60 Hz I'm not sure any upgrade is really all that necessary, at least for gaming. You might notice it in some more intensive games, but that would largely depend on what you play.

Edit:

Any reason you don't have an AMD processor listed? Used Ryzen 1800x processors can be had for less than a 4790k (not that you'd even need an 1800x, just using ot for the sake of comparison) and with the right motherboard you'd have an upgrade path for several years. If you aren't shooting for 120+ Hz refresh rates that'd be my choice. Spend the money for a nice motherboard and invest in a lower-end Ryzen (3 or 5 maybe) and you're good to go. Then in a couple years grab a 2700x or whatever releases this year if you need more multi-threaded 'oomph'

I suppose this is the Intel section so...my bad. Still, my point stands. If you generally use older hardware it'd make sense to maximize its life expectancy.

Then stay in the low side of your budget: 200-300 max. The ddr3 will have scarce resell value.
I second a new ryzen setup in your case.

I highly regret going with a used 4790k instead of a 1700x or similar. 8 cheap cores now, drop in upgrade for the 3000 series. Probably could have snagged a used 2700. I only did it because I didn't want to upgrade my board and ram.

A used 4790k is around $200 and a board can be from $80 to $150ish, the ram is about $80 for 16gb. 24gb sin't really an option unless you mix kits of different sizes. An 1866 32gb kit is $140ish IIRC.

A 4790k isn't even an upgrade for you though. You'll loose 2 cores/4 threads and gain 500mhz at best...assuming you delid it, closer to 300mhz if you don't.
Side grading to another dead platform so you can keep your CLC configuration seems pretty silly when you have to swap boards anyway and change the CLC so it will support 1150. With the way games are going, threads are becoming more important than speed. This became very apparent with my 4.7ghz 4690k with just a 1080 running 1440p in modern FPS games.
All that being said the 4790k is still very capable but the 2700x is almost 2x the CPU.

I would say just go with a 2600/2600x with a decent mobo and you are good

I mean unless there's some super specific reason to stay with intel I'd just go with a Ryzen 5. Way better performance for the money and DDR4 is finally cheap.

My picks would be either a 3770K or a 4820K at the minimum.
