Can anybody recommend one? I am looking for a board that can OC non-K Skylake CPUs (and in particular ES non-Skylake CPUs) well and with minimum hassle.

At the moment I have an MSI Z170 Gaming M5 but I am struggling to get a decent and stable OC out of it. I believe the boards that support an external clockgen offer far more in this respect.

Thanks.

ASRock makes their "Hyper" motherboards, H170 and B150 (and a C board for doing this with Xeon) I've only seen the B150 in-stock. All but the more inexpensive Pro4 Hyper are in every way overclockers motherboards, 10 phase power, big heatsinks, and they're more expensive than most motherboards with those chipsets, to the point of being close to the price of a low-end Z170 motherboard, but they're capable of bclck non-K CPUs and overclocking RAM without a custom BIOS and constant blocking or patching of microcode updates. Do you know of any other motherboards with external clockgen? ASRock's "Hyper" motherboards are the only ones with that I was aware of....

As I understand both Gigabyte and AsRock boards have had the tech embedded for some time but AsRock are the only ones to have included it more recently in their budget H and B versions.

Any Gigabyte board that lists Turbo B clock in its spec also has an external clockgen basically. Gigabyte started to move away from it though when Intel expressed upset over non-K overclocking earlier this year.

With AsRock you're looking for the Hyper BCLK engine.

People have had a lot of luck BCLK OC'ing on the higher end Asus boards too e.g. Maximus Hero VIII but those tend to cost a minimum of $300 usually.
