G500 Sucks.

I had to get a new mouse last week because my old faithful MX518 stopped working. I researched a bunch of mouses and wound up getting a Logitech G500. It got 5 eggs on Newegg and had nearly the same ergonomic design as my trusty 518. All that said, I went ahead and ordered it. I received it today and excitedly plugged it in. OH. MY. F******. GOD. The mouse was all over the place, hard to control, very imprecise.

I tried fiddling with all the settings in Setpoint. Nothing changed. The weights didn't really help either. I often pick up my mouse slightly as I'm moving it around. Whenever I do the cursor moves erratically. I never had this problem with the MX518. It feels worse than the crappy business optical mouse I was using while waiting for the G500 to come in the mail. The vertical speed is significantly lower than the horizontal speed. Probably because of where the laser is positioned. I don't know why Logitech couldn't keep the damn laser in the center of the mouse where it belongs. This is possibly the worst gaming mouse I have ever owned. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the awful middle mouse button. You have to press it in just the right spot in order for it to be pressed. It feels very cheap too.

Maybe I don't have the right settings. Didn't think a mouse would need THIS much calibration. What are your guy's settings?

I had a G500 for awhile and I thought it was great? Really accurate and lots of settings to adjust...

Yeah I like mine too lol.

Have you maybe tried lowering the DPI on your mouse physically?

When I had it I had the DPI up all the way (no reason not to) and the sensitivity relatively low.

The biggest issue I'm having with it is when I pick my mouse up slightly, the sensor still detects the surface and moves the cursor accordingly. I've been using my mouse like that since I was born. I had no trouble with the MX518. I didn't think I needed a second opinion on gaming mouses here when the whole world seemingly loves this mouse. I'm willing to bet an old fashioned ball mouse is more accurate than this pos.

Ya part of the problem is the sensor position not being dead center. I have both a Xai and a G500 and they both have the same sensor, the Xai has the sensor placed dead center of the mouse and it makes all the difference.

I use the G500 for my "work" computer, it's good for non gaming purposes I find.

Well if lift off distance is a big factor in a mouse for you, then the G500 is definitely not the right mouse for you. That is the reason I sold mine.

Try out a Zowie mouse, they currently have the lowest lift off distance of any gaming mouse.

Personally I love the G500. My bro has one and it was perfect.

The EC2 is the one most pro 1.6 players like the most.

you're feeling the difference between an optical mouse and a laser mouse (i assume the g500 is laser like the g5 which i have). ive used an mx518 or whatever its called and actually prefered it to my g5 because i also found my g5 more scatty when lifted off the surface its on. laser mice are supposedly more accurate though. maybe just get another mx518 or other optical mouse?

have they changed the g500 recently or something. i replaced a g5 with one a few years ago and still love it. i do lift sometimes and the result is always predictable

what are you using for a mousepad? i can hover over my func pad and i dont get any erratic movement

good point. laser mice are more fussy about the surface they're on. i use mine on a wooden desk and it aint that bad really. i know what the op is on about though. its take a little getting used to going from and optical to laser mouse. a non reflective surface is best. shiny surfaces cause a lot of trouble.

Here is a tip, you want to use a 500 ms polling rate, at 1k it can be a jumpy and jittery mouse. The G500 is anything but predictable. The sensor has prediction(cannot be turned off at all) along with positive and negative acceleration. They cannot be turned off only down to a small amount. The massive problem with the G500 next to a non gaming friendly sensor is the Left and right click buttons. They are prone to fail. The last thing about the G500 is a two part thing, its where they put the sensor and that stupid weight cartrage!

The sensor should be more centered in the body of the mouse and the weight system is bogus. A few weeks ago I replaced my G500 with a new G400(no prediction or acceleration) and I love it to death. The sensor is in the right place, the mouse dose not weight a metric ton as they ditched the weight thing altogether.

Ohh then there is the corde for the mice, the G500 cord is way to stiff. the G400 core flex's much better.

EDIT: stay away form cloth pads with this mouse. They track much better on a hard surface imo.
