Just seeing if anyone has been using the GPU Tool from techpowerup?

http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...Preview_1.html

It has some nice features. I have noticed that when I load it it over rides my evga precision settings.

It has a stability test that seems to put a nice load on the gpu.

It also has the "find max" option where it will continue to raise the clocks while stressing til its unstable.
However I have found this to be a bit inaccurate on most gpu overclocking software, it will find a max stable clock that is usually not stable in games that push the gpu like Crysis..

Just wanted to give a heads up to those that weren't aware of it (like me til a week or so ago) and get some feedback from people who have used it.

Ive heard of it but I have never used it before and Ive wondered the same thing as well. Maybe I should download it and give it a shot. Also I never trust aprogram to find max clocks as usually they are unstable or able to go further, just seems like a waste to me.

Not if it is programmed aggressively enough. It should stress the hell outta the chip while upclocking and hold a stress for like 5-20mins after every 5MHz. You would have a pretty good idea then.

Hey if it works for you then by all means go for it. They might be getting better with the coding but I still like to do my own fine tuning. It kinda takes out the fun of OC'ing your card, thats just my opinion though

How old are you?

Random I know, but I used to LOVE fine tuning and tweaking everything to perfection, but now as I get older I don't care that much, don't have time, and don't want to put that amount of time into it. So I would love to have a program do it for me overnight!

Im still kind of a youngster but even when Im old and gray Im going to OC my sons GPU to 5GHz(cant wait for the future hardware)

. OCing a GPU takes no where near the time it takes to stabilize a CPU OC so its still worth it to me. If we didnt do it ourselves then how would we be set apart from the general masses anymore who just go out and buy alienware or some OC'ed machine from somebody like on this site.

I ran the "Find Max" feature on my memory last night and hit 1582 before I shut it off...

I had a crash in Crysis once at 1431, I am going to try it there again and see if it was just a freak crash, or unstable....

I havent tried the core or shader yet, I know both of those are at their max stable clock now...

GPUTool is a good start for what could be a very nice utility. ATM it doesn't properly test any other card then main display when multiple cards are installed.

dude, in my opinion, overclocking is kind of an art or a state of mind, how we interact with "things" like hardware or mor abstract, problems itselv. it is about learning and experimenting.
it is not about "look how much i get out of my new processor, hell that is kingsize!"
no. i think, it is about getting to know your hardware (even old and antique, i started 5 years ago with a ten year old athlon xp) and develop a deeper understanding of relations an processes.
if you could hit a button and everything would be fine, the producer of the hardware would have done that themselv!

honestly, i'm interested in overclocking quite a time and mostly i read in threads something like "help me to oc my hardware", written by people who wanted core-clocks, memory timings or fsb-values with no understanding of what these values do. it is sad, how less somebody invests in that topic but wants to gain from it.

however, to overclock a gpu is really simple, like Voltage_Drop said. how many values are there? mostly 2, memory and core clock, stabilized by your voltage.
how much simpler could it be?
espacially with GPUtool. i found my perfect stable overclocking with that tool, simply while writing this comment.

It worked great on my 4850, didn't work at all with my 460. But, the testing is better than furmark.
