I have this model

And when I try DP it does not display any picture but when I try HDMI it display a picture at 120Hz but 8 bit colors, it can not work at 10 bit ?

GPU is 6800 XT

There should be an option in the AMD Adrenalin software. At least there is one for my zen 4 iGPU.

Hmm, i see your monitor only supports HDMI 2.0, so bandwidth is limited. You might only be able to get 10 bit at 60Hz

What resolution?
For 4k 120hz 10bit color you need a very good HDMI cable.

When I use HDMI it only display 8 bit but when I use DP it can allow 10 bit

6800xt has the right HDMI spec so the issue is more than likely your HDMI cable.

It's your monitor that is limiting... It has HDMI 2.0 according to the link you posted, which can only do 10 bit at 60 Hz (perhaps max. at 90 or 100 if your monitor supports that setting)

Why don't you just use DP?

HDMI 2.1 supports 4:4:4-RGB-Full 10bit at 3840x2160@120Hz without DSC.

You take the table from Wikipedia and there i see it supports up to 75Hz at 1440p without any limitations, higher refresh rates would require to reduce quality to 4:2:0.

Your display has HDMI 2.0 and should be capable to display 1440p at 144Hz. The cable should say "Premium High Speed" or "Ultra High Speed" on the side to not limit you.

But from what you say, and what I see in the table, its probably not HDMI 2.0 cable or its faulty and thats why you cant reach that refresh rate at 10bit.

I‘m not sure if all displays support 4:2:0 though. And you don’t want 4:2:0 for pc use any way, it completely ruins text rendering.

Without DSC HDMI 2.0 (14.4Gbps data rate) is only good for 119Hz 1440p at 10bpc.

That's what most HDMI displays default to because that's what's expected for film and TV content.

I would get another cable, preferably an HDMI 2.1 certified one, to verify. Defective HDMI cables are not uncommon.

There is always a reason.

Moving a cable can break a solder joint or wire strand, insulation can fray, contacts can abrade and corrode, etc and so forth. If the signal falls below a certain threshold, too many errors show up and it gets negotiated down to a lower rate until the signal is clean.

Cables are often crap. Many designs and lengths are never certified by any authority and will only work at specified speeds at very short lengths in ideal conditions, and only if they don't happen to have any meaningful manufacturing defects. Many samples are borderline and break from normal handling.

Your problems may well originate somewhere besides the cable, but cables fail often enough that this is the first place I look. I try to have at least a couple of known good cables around for troubleshooting.

You can also break the port as well. I have a 22awg HDMI cable as thick as a garden hose. And the weight of the cable breaks HDMI ports.

6800xt should be able to do 4k 120hz 10bit as my 6900xt did.
