I have bought my compaq presario (model: sr5250nx) at least a year ago now, and i am just getting into the world of overclocking. As i have figured out, i have a locked bios, which doesnt allow me to change anything! Right now i have a pentium e2140 @1.6ghz which i have heard can get up to 2.8 or higher when overclocked. Due to my locked bios i cannot do anything. I recently discovered the program setfsb which can let me raise the fsb via my pll. However i can only move it up about 10mhz before the system hangs!

Is my mobo holding me back or is it the cpu itself?
Any help is much appreciated

CPU: Pentium e2140
Mobo: Lancaster8
Memory: Kingston 2gb
Graphics: 9800gt
Hdd: Hitachi 320gb

Thanks for the reply!

I dont think that heat is the issue here because i have speed fan running and it doesnt show any increase in temps.

Ok i added my system, and filled all the fields that i could. I also did some reading and found out that my pcie bus speed should only be 100mhz, and if you over it causes periferals to freeze. Is this my problem? if so how do i stop setfsb from overclocking the pcie bus?

You don't. Basically you can't overclock a manufactured computer.
I would suggest that you buy a new MOBO and ram to start overclocking.

I've been overclocking my Asus EeePC with SetFSB. I've gotten it Prime stable at 2.1GHz from 1.6GHz. Gotta love the Atom!

Did you read the readme.txt file that came with SetFSB? It tells you which configuration to use with each board. Open CPU-Z and go to the mainboard tab to find out what kind of board you have.

Doesn't the settings not save after rebooting? I got my work E1200 PC to 2.1ghz and after rebooting it just went back to 1.6ghz.
