How do I stop my mouse cord from catching on the edge of my mousepad?

So basically my braided mouse cord is catching on the edge of my mousepad and causing VERY noticeable friction.

What should I try to prevent this from happening? I'm not sure how I can keep the mouse cord above the mousepad......

You can use a little lifter like the Razer Armadillo 2 (Amazon Linky $20 + Prime Eligible), place that at the edge of the pad, thus eliminating any friction.

It's $20, so I suppose it is expensive for what it does... but it does alleviate your problem :\

That does look like it could do what I want.....but yea $20 is kind of expensive for something that just holds a mice cord.......lol

I don't think you actually get what I'm saying. The mouse cord isn't falling off the edge of my desk or anything, it is scraping on the edge of my mousepad. So if it taped it to my desk that wouldn't solve anything becuase I need something to raise the mouse cord from being level with my mousepad.

I see, didn't even think about doing that I just thought he meant to tape it to my desk....lol

I suppose that would help, but I have a metal mouse pad so I'm sure there would still be very noticeable friction from any cord.

I suppose I could cover the whole top edge of the pad in electrical tape. Couldn't hurt to try.

It is funny, I had a braided cord mouse once, it annoyed me how it touched the mouse pad (plastic one), so I'd always bend the cord up... untill it broke and mouse lost juice now and then. The braided cord is a fail concept in itself and spreads like a desease. I am never going to ever buy a braided cord mouse, never.
Lucky "proper" gaming mice still stick with rubber cords.

I love the feel of the Steelseries Ikari Laser, It just fits your whole hand and there is a spot for every finger unlike 90% of mice. I don't think there are any mice similar to it that have a non-braided cord.

But like I said, even if it was not braided it would still cause noticeable, extra and unneeded friction because it would have to hop up over the edge of my mouse pad.

I had problems with certain mice cables getting caught on the edge of my Puretrak Talent so I found a book with the same thickness of my talent, put it above my Talent and taped my mouse cable to it. It ended up working really well, it's not perfect but it's the only thing that made using a WMO bearable since its cable would keep getting caught on the edge of the Talent.

You can see it in this picture:

That doesn't seem like a bad idea either. I will have to give this a try too.

So basically my two options are go ghetto (lol) and use tape for less friction or a magazine to level out the cord or spend some cash and buy the Razer Armadillo for $20....hmmm aesthetics vs cost.

Get an alligator clip (the think that is supposed to be a replacement for paper clips, but everyone just sticks it to ears). Run the USB through it. Clip it to edge of desk or under monitor or to monitor stand, heck a shelf even, if it in right place. Pop the top arm up. This lifts the cord up just a little and also holds it at an increased angle to the mouse pad.

Total cost ~ 0.05$. Satisfaction > $100

You can also use these clips as ear bud holders.

If you have an optical mouse use the Qck or QcK+ from SteelSeries. It's only about 2mm thick.

Here's a rather cheap and creative solution...

Hire a viking

Cheers.
