I am rather mad as I just want to upgrade my wifi card in my DV7-6143cl HP laptop. I have the Intel wifi link 1000 installed currently and it is stock.

I have bought an Intel wifi link 6250 and a Intel wifi link 6230. Both of which are not compatible! I am not mad about the 6250 card as it is not on the supported list of wifi cards in the manual but the 6230 IS!.

5 people at HP did not help me on this.

I was told by 3 of them to call Intel which only makes me more mad because it is a bios problem which doesn't allow me to boot up past the error screen that they created the code for. 1 of them mentioned a driver issue and I immediately just asked to be transferred after I had explained that windows doesn't even boot. The other one couldn't help me because I was transferred to the wrong department.

This laptop is becoming a pain in the rear because the video card drivers are also outdated and HP hasn't released ANY updates for anything since last year. I would upgrade them but then I would lose the switchable graphics feature which would kill my battery life.

Should I call Intel to see what they say? Is this a firmware issue on the wifi card? If that's the case is this flashable? I can put the card in another laptop and flash it if that's the case.

Why would the manual say one thing but then the computer say this ^?

Wifi card that I bought

I too have looked into upgrading my Pavilion's wireless, and the general consensus is that the manual is wrong and HP unfortunately has a pretty limited whitelist inside the BIOS for WLAN options.

However, this thread is worth looking into (assuming you want to upgrade for dual-band/bluetooth). People have also done some BIOS modding to remove the whitelist, but I've stayed away from that territory.

Let me refer you to http://leshcatlabs.net. Modded drivers, but very up to date and with all the switchable capabilities. I'm currently using 13.4 WHQL v2 with my 6770m+HD3000 and they're quite a bit faster and cooler than HP's ancient stock driver.

I understand the bios whitelist thing but this card SHOULD be on the list as per the manual which is what is making me mad.

I would like to have the card I already have to just work. I like the intel drivers that allow me to make an ad-hoc network while I am connected to another. This came in handy when I went on vacation and my laptop was the only that could pick up a network and everyone else needed wifi.

I want dual band so that I can take full advantage of my router and also have increased throughput.

I would do the bios mod if I knew for sure it would work or that it could be fixed if something went wrong. I don't want to risk bricking my mobo as I don't have the money to replace it.

Thanks a ton for those drivers too I will be installing them shortly. +rep

Bump. Can anyone else help me with this? I called HP back today and after speaking with the 8th person total he said its not their responsibility to help me with upgrading my computer and that to fix my issue I had to pay $50. I got pissed and said bye. I didn't want to cuss anyone out because generally I am a nice person.
