Can someone explain what this option does and if it's beneficial for ECC memory?

It protects the modules and the data.

Look up Row Hammer and also Cold boot attacks.

Basically it randomizes the patterns of electrical impulses to the dram modules so you don't get issues with bit-flipping from electrons leaking from memory cells into the next cells over because you are accessing the same row over and over.

It also helps protect data from cold boot attacks, where someone resets a computer without a clean shutdown by the OS, boots a live cd or sometihng, and grabs the contents of the ram
