Motherboard USB ports not working?

Hello

All of the sudden, all of my USB ports stopped working. Is it my motherboard chipset for the USB fried?

The last thing I plugged into it was my external dvd writer which required 2 USB ports. Right after that, my keyboard and mouse did not work. So I tried plugging all the other ports to make sure it's not my kb and mouse stopped working all of the sudden. Nope, nothing..

So I tried plugging them in my laptop. BAM! It worked. So...I'm sure it's now the usb ports on my motherboard that is not working..what caused it?

Do you think I need a new motherboard now?

It's not going to be a cheap replacement..ah!!

Power off the computer completely and disconnect from the outlet for a minute until the motherboard has zero power. Psu capacitor charge doesn't matter for this. There is a chance that plugging that writer in tripped the short circuit protection on the USB ports that most modern motherboards have.

Can't even get into the BIOS as the kb isn't even working.

Going to try that now.

EDIT: Nope, no go unfortunately

Maybe I'll try to leave the PSU unplugged overnight and see if it will work in the morning..

Well, I submitted a support to ASUS and they replied pretty fast..within an hour.

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

My name is Stacey and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.

In this situation, I suggest you to take the motherboard out of case and keep the necessary components onboard. Then try the devices on the USB port of the back panel.
If it is not helpful, maybe you could download the lastest chipset driver from the following page:
http://support.asus.com/download/dow..._type=23&os=30
If it still exists, please erase the cmos to load default settings and try again.

Welcome to refer Troubleshooting & FAQ for ASUS products in ASUS website:

If you continue to experience issues in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best Regards,

Stacey

I'll give that a try tomorrow..

So basically, I'll have to try running it without a case..hmm ok

But how am I suppose to do updates and stuff without having the keyboard and mouse to work? :S

Well, I have tried updating the latest chipset from Asus support. No go. I had to use PS2 plugins for keyboard. Can't find a old mouse lying around so I had to tab everything. Lol!

Converters don't work either. The PS2 to USB ones. Sadly..

Anyways..the last option I can do now is purchase another motherboard at the meantime while I try to RMA this.

I found a poster selling his ASUS P6T Deluxe V1 for 200$. Good price? Or should I just buy a brand new ASUS Rampage III Extreme?

Tried it all. No go.
