Hi all,
My friend gave me his old nForce 790i ultra SLI since he was changing his build up, but when I went to install it into my computer, the mobo just didn't want to start... The lights on the mobo light up, but anytime I press the power button the lights just turn off, and then come back on. But no actual boot.

Anyone have an idea?

I assume the motherboard was working fine when your friend gave it to you. First thing of the top of my head to check is to make sure all the power connectors are plugged in (especially the 8-pin CPU). What other components are you using?

Yes, the motherboard was working when he pulled it out. He gave it too me as soon as he got his parts to his new rig.

Hmm, it's connected. Made sure all wires are connected where they should be.

I'm using a Lepa N-500w PSU, 2x2gb G.Skill RipJaws Ram, thermaltake Nic4 cpu cooler, ATI radeon 6750 gpu.

Edit:
He also gave me his cpu, which was a Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor QX9770

Do any of the fans start up either on the cooler or the GPU?
Check to everything is seated firmly (GPU and RAM)
Make sure your RAM is in the right slots since your using 2 of the 4 slots (check which slots are 1 and 3).

Also, just to note, that PSU is not a quality unit. Firstly, it's not a true 500W PSU as it only outputs 400W on 12v rail. Secondly, it's not a high quality product. It should work, especially since your GPU is very low wattage. Do not push it though, it's liable to fail and possibly take your other parts with it.

I'll check once I have time again. I put my original parts back together since I need my PC. But if I recall, the fans did spin, but very short amount since it seemed like the mobo just cut power.

Yes... :/ I know... haha I'm looking forward to buying a new PSU within the month, but still on the fence of which one I will buy

In my particular situation it only booted with a specific cpu (Q9550) and didn't work with anything else until battery was replaced..
This was an XFX 790i board
