In the bios I changed the SATA function to RAID after plugging my 2 WD 500's into the 3gbs (ports _0 and _1). Reboot, and hit CTRL+I to open the configuration utility, set both drives to raid0, and created one logical drive.
Boot to windows, and windows says that it can not find my raid controller driver. At the same time, my CD/DVD-R drive is not recognized by windows 7 either.
I have installed all of the Win7 updates, tried to manually point windows to the marvel raid drivers found here.
I tried to use different sata ports like M4 + M5, while setting those to raid, but when I attempt that, I cant even enter the Raid config utility during startup.
I caved at about 1am this morning and set up a Raid0 stripe through windows 7

. (which is last resort because I haven't herd of them being very stable at all)
Anything I'm not thinking of to try? Anyone else had this issue?

drive to boot your system, and follow the instruction to install OS on your system.
When you see "Where do you want to install Windows?" page, please insert our
Support CD to your system, and click the "Load Driver" button to load Intel® RAID
drivers. Intel® RAID drivers are located in the following path of our Support CD:
32 bit: ..\i386\Win7_Vista_Intel_v3.0.0.1112
64-bit: ..\AMD64\Win7-64_Vista64_Intel_v3.0.0.1112
After that, please insert Windows® 7 / 7 64-bit / VistaTM / VistaTM 64-bit optical disk
into the optical drive again to continue the OS installation.

That's from page 63 of the manual. It seems you can't setup that kind of RAID, unless you're doing it during a Win7 install. Also, your optical drive can't be connected to any SATA2 or 3 port. I've also read this somewhere else. Seems strange, but that's how it worked elsewhere as well. Hope this helped.

I was actually able to accomplish this when I replaced my 2 500gb HDDs and got 2 1TB drives (steal off ebay for $100 new).

I installed the hard drives into the M2/M3 ports (my SSD on the M0 port), I then booted into the bios and enabled raid for the M2/M3 AND also enabled bootable raid controller for these drives.

When booting I hit "m" to setup the raid through marvell, booted to windows and formatted the drives. Boot times were slow because of how long it would take to start both of the bootable drivers(this happens before the bios even starts.

So I went back into the bios and disabled the bootable M2/M3, for my raid. I cannot boot from this raid, which I don't need because of the SSD, but I can use it in windows, and will retain it if I format windows.

I wouldn't expect too many people to jump into this thread too fast, ASRock is not the most "in demand" manufacturer. Not to mention the price of X79 builds, the crowd is thin but give it time.

 

It seems like they are doing well, they pack a lot of goodies in for the price.

Now I just need my new case to arrive to start a buildlog!

As great as Ivy Bridge is I just don't feel like moving from one dead socket (775) into another dead end socket (1155).

 

I thought the Ivy Bridge was avail for the 2011 socket?

Ivy Bridge - E is and that won't be out till at earliest the end of the year. Whatever comes after Ivy is going to be on a new socket, 1150 I think.

There's plenty of folks here on OCN that can afford many builds and see ASRock as the newest up and coming board to use. I have faith.

After seeing the 3770k overclocked benchmarks I've pretty much made my decision. I should be ordering in the next month or two. I'll be sure to take lots of pics.

An Extreme 6/GB + 3820 are looking extremely appealing.
