Running the current BIOS now I see a few people had some issues with it, what BIOS are most of you running?

 

I am running 1.10.

Here is what I am running settings wise:

I see some ppl running 1.09 or even 1.07. Wondering if the old bios' are better than 1.10.

 

I saw 1.10 has a memory profile for 8000Mhz I wonder if anyone here is running it, maybe someone like @Gadfly or @jomama22 who is pushing their RAM.

I don't have mine dialed in yet and am still dealing with some case issues, I want to put a RAM fan on before I move the whole rig to a full custom loop.

 

not yet, ram has been on air. Highest I have run is 7200C32 1T; but it was stable.

If you want to run 7000+ you are going to want to water cool that memory.

 

I've got the board as well, but it's in a build that's a wip.

 

How are the VRM fans, they even audible? I assume the x4 slot is under the heatsink

 

If you manually crank up the fans, you can hear them. Under normal operation, no, in fact it almost never runs.

Is EVGA finally leaving EU? The EU site is borked - GPU product pages throw access denied, the Z690 is not even listed on the website. Or are we getting the same story over and over - Z690 KP will drop in the EU when Z690 is superseded?

What are the big yellow capacitors for and why?

 

Audio section, improved audio output signal/filtering, maybe cause it just looks good on a "overengineered" pc part.

 

tbh I think the z390 dark had better audio than the z490 or z590 ones did.

 

VRM fan ramps up for a split second when you turn on the PC. I have heard it once very faintly one time while testing my memory overclocking.

 

Has anyone used any of the profiles under EXTRAS?

 

I am using one. I started with kingpin 6800MHz hynix memory profile and adjusted from there.

 

Good to know, was also wondering if anyone has been disabling any of the board slots like the 2nd pci-e lane. Never have done something like that before but if I don't have anything in the slot it makes sense. I want to utilize as many features of the board as possible

 

I usually disable them past boards, but haven’t done so yet. Idk if it helps performance or not. But they help if you need to troubleshoot something, easier to turn off slot than to remove pciE or m.2 card. Especially when watercooling.

 

@MrTOOSHORT thanks, gonna disable a bunch of stuff this weekend thats not in use and start trying to get familiar with this BIOS.

I was really intimidated by it as a lifer ASUS user but its been really good so far.

Is there an Intel TVB setting in the BIOS? Looked and didn't see one, might just be getting old

 

Hi guys if you want to run 7000+ with 1T I suggest bios 1.09 for now. Patch included in next release for high freq + 1T

 

This is what I'm using for daily. TM5/Karhu stable. tRFCpb has be set on Windows with memtweakit. 5.2/4.8

 

Really strong especially with 1T thx for sharing! Btw I have asked the bios team to unlock tRFCpb control in bios. I have a working test bios already. I guess will be included in an upcoming release.

A few other features that'd be great are:

• Ability to set below 12 for tRTP
• Add PMIC Switching frequency adjustments
• Prevent PMIC Turbo Modes from locking minimum CPU VDDQ (Turbo mode 4 locks it to 1.35v and cannot be lowered). It'd be great know what Turbo mode does to memory.

How many slot spaces are there between the two PCIe slots on the Dark? Wondering as the next gen GPUs seem to have heatsinks that make the cards about 3.5 slots thick.

You can set it, but it does not actually use it when using turbo 4 or 5 (from what I have tested). The turbos seem to set a minimum cpu vddq voltage. Try yourself, set below 1.35v in bios with turbo 4 on, boot, check hwinfo for voltage.

 

Ok got you. Get me up to speed here, for clarification: why would you want to set lower? In my testing higher has been more stable, or at least didn't hurt.
For context some voltages and resistances are tied together as they need to be raised or lowered together.

 

For me and a few others, I needed CPU VDDQ @1.25v for 7000 1T daily stability and 1.3v for 7100 1T daily stability. Using turbo 4 or 5 made getting them daily stable impossible.

It would be nice to know what resistances were being changed, or just the underlining changes the turbo modes do in general so those settings could be tweaked.

Would also be great to be able to actually see what the default resistances are set to so it would be easier to tweak/have a baseline of known good odts
