Hi everyone! Going to change out the thermal paste of my new Zotac AMP Extreme 1080TI. The paste I am going to use is.

GELID Solutions GC-Extreme Thermal Compound - It came with my Asrock Z77 Formula OC motherboard. Will this be good to use?? It is 4 years old but never opened. I know there are better solutions but when this stuff came out it was pretty good stuff.

Thoughts...

In regards to Firestorm the OC software for Zotac cards. Can I run AB at the same time as Firestorm? I assume I need firestorm open to control the rgb lights and to make sure the 100% fan on/off stays off? I have FS installed. Can I open AB or do I have to close FS first? I have always heard that you are not supposed to have multiple oc software on at the same time.

If I have FS installed and have setup the rgb lights the way I want them and also turned off the 100% fan turning on can I then reboot and it will stay that way? Even if I do NOT have it to be on at startup? Then I can just open AB.

How do the people with an Amp Extreme use FS and AB at the same time??

Thanks

Before you buy the AMP Extreme look at this-

http://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2981-zotac-1080ti-amp-extreme-review

I have an extreme and I love it- I added a 2mm thermal pad over the power component heatsink so that it contacted the main heatsink, I also changed out tim while I had it apart.

I have a AMP Extreme 1080ti and I really like it.

Was 2mm enough to make good contact with the heatsink? Sounds like it was.

What brand of pad did you go with? FujiPoly, maybe, like this one? >> http://www.frozencpu.com or this one >> http://www.performance-pcs.com

While I'm in there, I should replace the other thermal pads, as they get less effective each time they get compressed and then pulled apart.

Did you determine what those other thicknesses are? Looks like there are two different thicknesses, maybe? (light blue and the white ones)

Any advice you can give would be very welcome!

I wonder what could be done to tackle the other issue GN identified - - that the backplate's "wrap" on the underside prevents good heat conductance...
The 2mm was perfect! I used Thermal Grizzly MInus Pad 8. Got a 100x100 square from Amazon. Cut it and applied. Re did the TIM on the core also. I did not mess with the other pads, only the heatsink for power. I did a loop of Superpostion and I was at 56C at 65% fan 2114 on the core +400 on memory. I have not tested for max memory yet.
75F ambient. I think the tim needs to cure for a few days. I have to admit that the tim from Zotac (whatever it is) was applied perfectly.

As far as the back plate- I am going to leave that alone. I have good cooling in my case. If I was to mod I would just cut 4 or 5 1/8 wide by 3 inch groves with a rounded dremmel tool. So it looks like the half by the IO.

As far as value goes, the reduction in performance per dollar going from the GTX 1080 or Vega parts to the 1080 ti is as small as it's ever been in the history of GPUs.

I remember when going from the 250 dollar to 500 dollar part was a sub-20% performance increase. Now you get 30%+ going from 500 to 750.
A 1080 ti is roughly 30% faster than a 1080.

Nearly everything will run extremely well at 1440p on the 1080 ti, but there are some game/setting combinations that won''t do well at 4k.
I have had nine of those cards in the chart:. Would of been more but I also had a 9800 pro, 4870, 5970 and 7950's in SLI.

There is a primary DP input on the GPU. I believe it is the one that is closest to motherboard. Streetdragon: switch the inputs on the GPU. The input that shows the bios is the primary. If windows switches just change main display in display setting in windows.

Some reviews sad that it was one of the best 1080 TI available, with really high clock. But I just read another review and they sad that this card has a problem related to VRM Cooling.

The card that i bought is the Zotac GTX 1080 Ti AMP! Extreme. I have 10 days to return it and I could pick other 3 options at the same price.

My other options are:

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X Trio
ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
MSI GTX 1080 Ti GAMING X Review

So what do you guys think? Should i keep the zotac or change it for another one?
I have the Amp Extreme 1080ti. Card is running perfectly. I did see the below review.

https://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2981-zotac-1080ti-amp-extreme-review

I bet it is the one you saw. I did do the mod in that video at 11:30. The card was running perfectly before but you can not tell the temp of the vram so I did not want to chance it. I took the rubber strip off of the heatsink and put a 2mm thermal pad on the black vrm heatsink. A 1.5 should work also. This way the heatsink is actively connected and cooling the vrm.

I had the card at 2075 mhz with no voltage oc and all was good for the month BEFORE I did the thermal pad mod. My case does have excellant airflow. Keep that in mind.

If you do not have the tools or confidence to do the mod I would consider a return and get a Strix if you can. If you do not have thermal pads on hand they will run you another 20-35 bucks so keep that cost in mind. Also, some manufacturers may not warranty the card if taken apart.

Up to you- good luck

Off topic but continuing this conversation. When I say a 1080ti is twice as fast as a 980ti I am meaning two 980ti's in sli. So around 55-70% depending on sli scaling. That is what I mean by twice as fast. I had one 980ti then went sli and now have a 1080ti.
In games that have great scaling the 980ti is faster and in bad scaling the 1080ti is faster. When the scaling is around 65% I think it is even.
