I started on this thing about a year ago. I must of changed the thing about 10 X over to make it feel right " for me " , but also adjustable for friends who want to come over and test it out. It originally was going to be setup as just a racing simulator , but later I found myself wanting to use it for so much more than that. I wanted too get into doing some Sim flying and get back into some FPS games again. My goal was to make it super comfortable , but extremely versatile.

Instead of using the PVC route like I did , I had contemplated on building the whole thing out of 80/20 structured aluminum. But after adding everything up , it was going to be pretty damn expensive...AND I knew I was going to keep making changes , upgrades , evolve it so I could play multiple things in it.

I think I'm about 98% done with the actual build as far as getting everything placed just right for the things I love to do....sim racing , flight combat sims and playing FPS games.

I used 2" PVC and had to special order some different fittings from some PVC furniture outfits. Mind you...this whole thing is " Retro-fitted " except for the seat area which has been glued , sanded down with 180 grit and ready for paint. I'll test , reconfigure it over the entire winter and when I'm completely 100% happy.....she'll get torn down , completely glued and painted with a black , rubberized coating. BUT...it will still come apart in 3 different sections for easy transportation. The entire seat area detaches from the front part of the rig , and the front part divides into a lower and upper section.

Quick shot of how I attach the seat area to the front half of the rig. Basically the same type of latches you would find on a large tool box. Once latched , it pulls the front and rear parts together.

Anyways....here are some pics of my creation and some explanation of parts and equipment.

As my racing simulator , this is how it's setup. CSW wheel base , Fanatec F1 Carbon fiber rim , along with a BMW rim. These will be changed out next summer for a full on OSW base with a Sam Maxwell wheel. ( http://www.sammaxwellcustoms.com/gallery.php ) The pedals are the HPP PRX 2 pedal SE version , full hydraulic , CNC billet aluminum ( Incredible pedals ...( http://www.hppsimulation.com ) Also , you'll notice that the pedals rest on a black piece of material. That is a custom cut piece I ordered from Tap plastics for $105.00 , to help from having the base flex while you are pressing the pedals for racing.

For Flight simulation , I can add or remove both the throttle and joy stick with wing nuts on the bottom of each base. Using an older saitek X-52 setup , and honestly I haven't had the time to really try them yet , but they fit perfectly and are in a very comfortable place for flying.

For shooting games , I can recline or move back the seat , remove both of the sim flying stick and throttle for extra mouse pad area for shooting. On the throttle side , after it's removed , it is replaced with a Nostromo N50 game pad.

This is something I kept going back and forth on , was a certain keyboard. I needed it back-lit , but also wireless for when I'm doing my racing. The Logitech K800 seems to be one sweet little keyboard and perfect for my build.

So to end up my post here , I'll revisit this thread again about 4 - 6 months after I get it all sanded down , glued up , painted and install some diamond aluminum plating on the top. Thanks for checking out my build guys.

Nice! I may have to do something similar. I really like having a wheel and pedals but it just doesn't feel right clamped on to my desk and sitting in a regular desk chair. I have to move my 34" closer and basically rearrange my desk just to play for an hour if I'm lucky. Great work! +1

Thanks Wolfsbora! I hear you on sitting at the desk with the wheel and pedals. The seating position just didn't feel all that good for racing , even though I did get used to it. I felt my back get sore after long driving periods. This racing seat is one of many I looked at getting and I dang near spent almost $400.00 on an Sparco racing seat like this....

But dang!....There was no reclining option! This one I have now is really nice and comfortable and I found it on Ebay. It fully reclines and moves on sliders front to back around 5" or so , which is great for adjusting between racing , flying and playing FPS games , and for my friends who come over to play around on it.. It was $120.00 with free shipping! Really glad I picked it up. The recline will actually go almost flat , and I have actually fallen asleep in it once or twice haha. >> http://www.ebay.com/itm/FULLY-RECLINABLE-BLACK-RED-CLOTH-UPHOLSTERY-BUCKET-RACING-SEAT-SLIDER-RAIL-RIGHT-/391208344423?hash=item5b15d59b67:g:n7oAAOSwPcVVscZD&vxp=mtr

Another thing I needed because of the adjustability was a really stout Monitor mount , to be able to move the screen back and forth with the seating options.

Thanks Sorphius! It's been a labor of love for sure. I probably put 8-10hrs in it this weekend , doing a bunch of driving. Can't seem to find a reason to get out of it haha. As long as I have cars to drive or planes to fly along with some cold beers , I'm in heaven. OH!!....btw , hopefully they will be here next week , but I have two carbon fiber beer holders coming that I will attach to the right side of the arm rest!

I didn't want one. Mainly because my left knee has a damaged meniscus and just using the brake alone after an hour or two , starts to ache pretty good. A lot of guys in the sim racing world don't seem to use them either. The left knee works about 5 X harder using the clutch between each shift , and the throttle is a different kind of motion , which is supposed to be smooth. BUT.....the HPP PRX pedal's are completely modular. I can add a clutch to this setup any time I wish. I could mount one pedal inverted and the other one flat.....it's totally up to the user / racer. I have thought about grabbing a clutch pedal , but for right now I haven't really needed a reason to get one.

Fair enough, they certainly look nice.

I enjoy manual boxes for messing around in games, although mostly I'll race paddle shift gt3

They are definitely a great set of pedals , but I was really on the fence a good year probably before I finally took the plunge and bought them. The great thing about buying high end pedals or a wheel ( Like an OSW or Accuforce ) is you don't really ever lose any money. There is a long waiting list , and sometimes people sell them for more than what they paid for them , because other potential buyers don't want to wait. I saw a guy about two months ago , sell his $1749.00 Accuforce wheel for $2200.00. Me on the other hand , I wouldn't want to make a profit off of another sim racer. If I could get what I paid for them , I'd be happy. Right now though , I wouldn't sell them for even twice the price haha. I love em'!

I hear ya man. It's a little tight in my office as well. I ride MX about 7-8 months out of the year ( when the weather isn't too bad ). But during the winter , I start losing my mind , and watching TV gets old. It just gave me something else to do , and even though I can't consider it productive , in a sense it kinda is. Besides , it helps get rid of some of the competitive juices flowing through my blood during this time of the year.
