I have a question regarding the usage of both. About a year ago my girlfriend bought me a Harman/Kardon AVR1600 and about 6 months ago I bought me some Sony SAVS-150H Speakers to go with it. The speakers are a 5.1/7.1 setup, and Ive decided to setup it up in the 5.1 setup.

For the past 7 or so years before getting this new stuff, I had been using an Old Skool Harman/Kardon 330A Receiver w/ 2 Pairs of Shelf Stereo Speakers and a 2.1 Home theater speaker system (Cinema Acoustics CSX-1200), All spliced together running out of the stereo output from the HK 330A and I had 6 12" Car subs setup as well, but we wont go into that

, I split the 2 so the latter was running on just 1 channel and I could kill one channel and have nothing but BASSSSS

.

Anyways, now that I've upgraded I'm no longer using the shelf speakers, But I am using the satellites from the CSX-1200 to get 7.1 Surround without having to separate the speakers from the Sony SAVS-150H (You can tie a pair of the speakers together or use them separate). For a while I was simply using the satellites out of the sub outputs on the sub woofer, Doing this though made the sub have hardly any bass output and so now I would prefer to use them straight from the receiver itself and use the sub strictly for bass, the only problem being, it isn't a powered sub...So I can't come straight from Pre-out and I don't wanna spend money on an Amp.

So I've come up with the idea of either...
A: Y Splitting the Pre-out from the HK1600 into the Powered Sony Sub and into the HK330A, Then using the 330A to go directly to the CSX-1200 Sub.
OR
B: Going directly into the HK330A from the HK1600 Pre-out and running both subs off the HK330A 1 from each channel. The reason for this is I read Y splitting can cause Quality loss, And also because It would allow me to Manually and more directly Adjust the bass going to the Subs without ever having to play with the highs or mids.

Now my question is what are the pros and cons with going with either? Which would be better for audio quality? Essentially I'm just gonna be using the HK330A as an Amp.
