Ok I have reached a point where in my P C journey where ever component I have I feel is at a good point of high end stuff(without going to $$ diminishing return part)

Every year though I always come circle around to my audio setup though and just feel as if There is room for upgrade. Ill do weeks of countless research, get overhelmed by graphs and numbers that mean nothing to me and then circle back to well on board audio is pretty damn good and just leave it at that.

I use z390 aurous master board on board audio along with some senn HD598( I also have a set of DT 770 pro on order too)

I keep debating on getting a sound card or external DAC/AmP. At first I read on and on about sound blaster AE-5 or AE-7 and hear some good stuff but it always leads to the issue of EMI from big power gpus and sound cards not a good mix and not worth the money. So it ends back up at looking at external dacs/amp

This kind of leads me to the GSX1000 or G6. Both seem to have strength in different areas. I play alot of FPS games so a good virtual surround system is important to me and both seem to deliver there with the GSX1000 being at the top of its game..only thing for me is GSX1000 has problem powering more hungry cans(if I choose to pick up another set) as well as price. The G6 is almost 115 bucks cheaper then the GSX1000 and the G6 seems to have alot more juice and no problem powering high Ohm set of cans.

So I guess im at a point where im just looking for some feedback from owners of either product??

I also should say I browsed and resarched EVGA nu audio cards but there price is pretty up there. They also seem to lack alot of features and no surround sound support either. Seems like an overpriced paper weight thats good for just pure sound quailty but lacks any feature for gaming. Maybe im wrong?

your headphones are stereo, drop the nonsense "surround sound" requirement. if you really need fake surround sound then do it through PEACE/Equalizer APO's "Surround Virtualization" on something without the gamer tax applied to it like a Fiio E10K or a Schiit Fulla.

The EVGA Nu Audio(2ch) at its current price is a bargain but you're stuck with using it on a PC. I was deciding between it and the SMSL M8A but went with the external option for my bookshelf speakers. Sound Blaster products are a bit expensive due to the Dolby licensing.

I just use onboard audio with Dolby Atmos for headphones. $15 from the Windows store and works pretty well. There's a small but decent list of games that use Dolby Atmos including Cyberpunk 2077.

Maybe thats the case in the states but its the opposite here in cannuck land. Evga nu cards are like 300+ up here unless im looking in the wrong places. Lots of creative stuff is on sale up here and at some really good prices.

Im just wondering if a 300+ sound card is worth it? The AE-9 is even cheaper and seems to have more options too it but im not well versed enough in audio jargin to know which has better hardware.

Are you trying to get a 5.1 / 7.1 sound setup or just headphones compatibility?
The GSX-1000 was my favorite device for awhile, and I still have it, but I've been using the Creative Super X-Fi amp for over a year now. I prefer it, the surround positioning is better once you take good head and ear pictures, with their Gen 2 calibration, and the mic compatibility is fine as long as you use a high quality (NOT cheap) "iphone adapter" for headphones that have a separate mic+speaker 3.5mm plugs (this combines the two RCA plugs into one, to plug into the Amp), or an headphone with an in-line mic integrated on the 3.5mm jack, like a V-moda Boompro Mic. Basically, something like this, but maybe a bit higher quality.

The Amp has a single 3.5mm for combined headphone+mic capability (designed for things like a V-moda Boompro).
Note: the amp "sometimes" has difficulty recognizing an iphone adapter. If this happens, just plug it in "most of the way" to the second to last hole stop, until the Amp picks up a signal (you will hear a faint click on your cans when it does), then push it in all the way.

I should also mention a mic input is not a big deal for me as Im using a USB power mic(blue yeti) i do have a mod mic 4.0 but it spends 99% of its time on the shelf unless i need it for a lan party or some where else.

Edit: just realized i should have multi quoted all of this lol

i had zx, ae5, gx1000

senn gx cannot power a 150ohm HeadP
abit buggy in some games
ae5 buggy sometimes

this the weird one. the zx until today with this age old drivers .. still works properly.

paired with g4me one, zero (150ohm) and gsp 600

the i got the gsx 1000 with g4me one during year/end bargain promo two years back.

check sennheiser online store. every year year end to jan next year there will be a combo deal.

Is the Sennheiser GSX 1000 worth it?

This is a good question, it costs a 100 USD more and its technology is slightly older compare to the G6. I am looking for a suitable external AMP DAC to pair with my arctis pro wireless and haven't come to a decision yet. But I am leaning towards the G6 and save up the 100 bucks for other expenditure

Alot of people considered gsx1000+amp is end game competetive fps audio. Ever reveiw I have read says its the best virtual surround sound period its just not powerful enough for big impedance cans.

I cant swallow the price though for it just too much for audio for me to spend. G6 is cheaper by a long shot and has a ton of juice for any headphones so ill give it shot.

The G6 can usually be found for cheap in the Creative official store as B-stock products. 1 year warranty etc. included.
Using mine with Hifiman HE-400 and AKG K845BT (K545 with added BT). Sometimes I have issues on boot where Windows can't find the device, but I'm using Ugreen magnetic USB adapter/cable on my G6 so replugging the device isn't a hard task.

Pro tip: Use velcro to tape the G6 under your desk.

Well played around with the G6 all day yesterday and have to admit im highly impressed with it and was happy to see that even over my onboard audio there was some great upgrades.

The extra details I can hear in games is amazing, also creative version of there surround sound is really good, much better then the gigabyte/realtek version I was using before. 7.1 virtual surround kind muddles the sound a bit and makes it too hard to pinpoint stuff but the 5.1 virtual surround works flawless.

Also tried out some of the SBX profiles for games. The call of duty one doesnt do much for me but I did enjoy the witcher EQ setup for the witcher. The PUBG Eq/SBX profile I can tell they did some exteme tweaking just looking at the EQ setup(and im no sound engineer) but it makes the annoying ambient static noise that pubg programs in nearly gone and foot steps and gun shot is extremely pronuced and loud. Almost feels like im cheating a bit as it defently gives you an edge in game.

Thing also has alot more juice to feed my hd598 and my dt770 pros.

Really happy with this product and didnt expect so much for 190 bucks.
