I've been an Intel user for my entire overclocking time, and I've been happy with their performance. While I'm not upgrading anytime soon, I've been thinking of making the I7 jump, and then I thought about AMD. I know their Bulldozer is coming soon, but just for fun with what's out right now, I wanted opinions on the choices I made:

I realize I need to upgrade motherboard, CPU, and RAM, so i looked at both AMD and Intel and came up with:

The RAM would be the same for both, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145312(Unless there is some compatibility issues)

And then for AMD I chose:

Motherboard

CPU

Intel:

Motherboard

CPU

So pretending Bulldozer isn't coming soon, are these pretty similar systems? Where can I cut corners/spend more? I was just thinking about upgrading, and thought I'd get some opinions...

I'm going to assume you're going to be overclocking, so you're gonna want a 2600K instead of the standard 2600: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070.

You can't raise the multiplier past stock on standard 2600, and on Sandy Bridge raising the base clock by nearly nothing makes it unstable. (Think 108ish max).

Also, the 2600K would be better than the 1090T. If you really want AMD, waiting for bulldozer would be the best choice right now.

If you're going Intel, you'll want the 2600K not the regular 2600 since it has a locked multiplier and doesn't overclock.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070&Tpk=2600k

Also, pick a better mobo like the P8P67 Pro I recommend to stay away from MSI boards.

And to give you an idea of the 2 processors you are looking at:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/287?vs=203

The RAM that is required for 1155 is 1.5v, and the RAM you're considering is 1.6v plus it's only 1333 MHZ. You should be looking at 1600 at bare minimum. Since you like Corsair, this is the RAM you should be looking at:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233143&cm_re=4_x_4GB_Corsair-_-20-233-143-_-Product

TBH though, 16 GB is way overkill. 8GB should be plenty, check out these choices.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=8gb+1.5v+1600&x=0&y=0

When it's back in stock, this is the kit I recommend:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428&cm_re=8gb_1.5v_1600-_-20-231-428-_-Product

For lots of Sandy Bridge info check out my sig.

If you wanted to upgrade now and are in that price range, intel is the clear winner at this time. The 1100T can't even tough an i5-2500K, let alone the i7-2600K. Once the overclocking begins, the sandy's pull ahead even further with the ability to do 4.5-5GHZ range.

Waiting for bulldozer would be a very good idea if you can hold out and are curious about trying an AMD build! We are all excited to see what bulldozer brings.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your stance), at this time, the sandy bridges are crushing AMD, even at the same price points.

I would say stay intel( after reading as much as possible about intel) new cpus are coming this year near the end in fall winter time most likely......

but if your willing to test out something new and different and truely feel the difference go with some amd products deffinitly worth it for the experience i feel....Im not an AMD nor INTEL junkie i just like both because each has its amazing differences PRICE bahahahah

Yeah, I'll probably be waiting a bit anyways, but I was bored at work and wanted to see what my options were if I were to upgrade now. I wasn't even paying attention to the RAM voltage and whatnot...just bored and wanted to get opinions...thanks!

Also the board choices are understanding that I have a PCI sound card, and a PCIe x1 tuner card that I'd like to be able to place towards the bottom of the board so as not to interfere with the airflow for my GPU(s).

Go with sandy bridge. There is a good chance LGA 1155 boards will get ivy bridge. Intel has a predictable cycle when they release products. Intel won't release ivy bridge until jan - march of 2012. The past 2 die shrinks happen around this time. Intel current sandy bridge platforms provide excellent performance for your dollar. AMD can't touch sandy bridge. Crank either the 2500k or 2600k to 4.8 GHz and enjoy.

The Sandy Bridge chip will be faster hands down. If you want to go AMD you need to wait for Bulldozer in a couple months, otherwise you are giving up performance, which doesn't make sense to me.

What are you saying yes to? This question So pretending Bulldozer isn't coming soon, are these pretty similar systems? Or the thread title?

Are you saying 1100T = 2600K? If so....
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/287?vs=203

Even the 2500K > 1100T
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=203

Heck, the 2600K is even better than my current chip as well.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/287?vs=100

Plus, the best part about SB is that it can easily do 4.5 - 5 GHZ on AIR, which no AMD chip is currently capable of right now.

I'm not trying to start a flame war here

, just posting some facts, that are backed up with TONS of reviews which you can further reference here:

For gaming rigs the 2500K is by far the best bang for buck right now, that is until BD gets released in a few months and we have some benchmarks to reference.

I suggest u to go with this intel setup, however dont get i7 2600,u cant overclock it at all,I suggest u to get i7 2600k,its only $20 more than i7 2600,these 'k' series cpu has unlocked multiplies & I've seen people even reaching 5ghz with i7 2600k,
for the mobo,
that msi p67 board sounds quite cheap with a i7 2600k,
get something like
asus p8p67 pro ($170)
asus p8p67 evo ($210)
asus p67 sabertooth ($220)
gigabyte p67a ud4 ($200)
hope this helps u

1333 CL9 1.6V!?
DON'T CHOOSE THAT RAM

A 2x4GB (get 2 for 4x4GB) proper 1600 CL9 1.5V KIT would cost much less and be much better

OK, if staying with Intel, and going with what is available now, what about this:

Asus P8P67 Deluxe

2500K

And these RAMS

The board is OOS right now, but has all of the connections I need/want, is supposed to be a better board for OCing, and is overall a really nice looking board.
