He has more potential issues to worry about (like burn-in) by using an OLED for a monitor. Technology has progressed sure, but he's still playing with fire by having constant static images running 9-12hrs a day. Lowering brightness doesn't seem to do much for mitigating it either.

OLED tech is for films.
funny because rtings and other people who have actually tested this say burn in is a non issue for mixed usage. there are ways to mitigate the potential burn in such as screen saver, not setting max brightness (why would you if you properly calibrate the screen anyways) auto hiding the task bar, etc..

instead of being a parrot try to actually read up on the topic.

Instead of making baseless assumptions, maybe you should take your own advice? RTINGS, lol.... Don't be a sheep and learn to think for yourself.

For anything other than watching films, there's always better options. That is a fact. It's also a fact most production companies do final finishing for blu-ray/TV exports on a calibrated OLED displays so it makes sense films would benefit most. Imperfect blacks has been a fairly short lived artifact of LCD-tech, CRT-monitors also sported perfect black levels, so in that regard, were sort of back to normal these days. That's a topic for another day though.

source: my brother is a colourist for a large post production facility. They handle finishing and mastering of features and TV-series on a regular basis.

i guess we should all ignore all the burn in tests all over the internet because your daddy works at nintendo. theres nothing youve said that requires the knowledge of a "colourist." Everybody here knows blacks and monitors have been crap since plasmas/crts and there is nothing comparable to oled except microled if that ever becomes main stream.

and how is motion blur, ips glow, ghosting, crappy contrast, no hdr better?

paying 1500$ for a 27 "gaming monitor" 4k screen with no HDR?

no thanks.

Take that L, lil timmy.
what L? the fact that you said your brother is a colourist? What does that have to do with anything?

stop breathing through your mouth for a bit and try to read kid.

imagine thinking youve won an imaginary argument by saying your "brother is a colourist" like that somehow gives him some knowledge or authority on oled burn in.
