There's this thing I seen a while back, and I really want to use it on a sidepanel mod.

What I want to do, is modify the sidepanel and make it swing, rather than push down and lock. The thing I need is a touch-connector type thing, one part on the case and one part on the sidepanel, and when the sidepanel's closed, the connectors touch and the lights & fan on the sidepanel turn on, but when you open the sidepanel, the connection breaks and the fans and lights turn off. Basically to save me from unplugging the fans et cetera every time I remove the sidepanel.

I've no idea what they are called D; In that review he calls it a "socket power connection" though...

I think you will have a hard time finding one, best option would be to somehow make one yourself..

hmm... I seen it before on an NZXT Case, I think, that's where I got the idea... And meh, I don't think it'll be that hard to make xD

I already checked the thermaltake spare parts store to see if they sell them seperatly, sadly they dont

Maybe check out the NZXT website? or contact one of them pretending to own one of their cases and ask if you can buy a spare because you broke yours

Quite seriously...go check out your local hardware astore...they sell these for doors + cabinets. I don't remember the name, but ask a sales rep and they should be able to help you out. I dimly remember someone using these in a mod about a year back.

That would still leave the problem of the wiring, I'd still have to unplug it when removing the side panel :/

This seems like a great idea for a case mod. I think the ones mentioned earlier are fixed so there isn't much wiggle room with fit. I plan to use spring loaded pins that can actuate a bit and making my own custom board.

Yeah, it would be really easy to drop a few spring loaded pins with a rim on them into a piece of plastic (small block of derlin or pvc would be perfect) and make your own custom take off switch.
The easiest way to explain it, I would say think of a bolt or smooth pin (smooth pin w/ cotter pin hole at end can be had at almost any hardware store) sliding thru a hole in a piece of plastic where the head is too large to pass thru the hole, then put a small spring on the bolt or pin before you insert it in the hole, now mount it and you are done.
Of course the depth of the hole in the plastic, length of your pin and spring will determine amount of travel.

Well I thought that was a pretty nice little mod, so I decided to whip one up that could be mounted on a removable door with a little wiggle room on the contacts and here is what I came up with. It seems to work good, I made this just 2 pin so maybe I will do a 3 pin model the next time. It is a very simple design and will give and pivot a little while door is being installed and still make contact after the wiggling and or sliding of the non hinged door is over.

The contact blocks are 2 x 3/4 inch (about the size of your pinky finger just a little shorter), a little larger than I hoped but it was somewhat necessary to work with that little sliding motion when the door is installed. The contact with the spring is to mount to the stationary part of case and the other with the hole between contacts is to mount on the door with a fan type screw from the outside, of course if I wanted to risk adhesive tape mounting that could be done also.

I popped it into a case to test it and I must say...I do like that mod, now I can remove and re install the case door without unplugging any fans or lights, yep just snatch the case door off without worrying about fan connections.
