Will my Seasonic prime TX1000 be enough?

Hey guys i plan to upgrade my 2080 with a 4090 , currently I have an overclocked 12900K that can reach ~250 watts with benchmarks but it only does 80-100 under gaming. Of course I have more stuff tha gets powered like 13 fans , 2 ssd , the Z690 Hero motherboard itself , a custom loop pump and I think that’s it.

So will my power supply be enough or I have to add a second smaller one and keep this one only for the gpu ?

thank you , that’s what I thought too but I am reading some really crazy stuff about the new cards and old psu requirements due to the new connection but I don’t care about using the adaptor if it works as intended.

Nvidia recommends 850W for 4090 with 5900X. With 12900K you probably need 50-100W even if averages are not that much higher in games. Also if you plan to go 600W mode for 4090 then you are cutting it close with 1000W. It will probably work but I would not be surprised if some 1000W PSUs have issues.

Well even 450 watts is a bit too much for the electricity bill so I would rather to stay there if it drives my monitor to the fullest but if it does not then surely as I know myself will overclock it. If I had to choose 1 card from the current ones I would say the ROG strix one. But I will wait a bit if there will be a custom loop ready card (non gigabyte) in the next 2 months.

Great finding maybe I will be able to get it for free but as far as I can see this one is a 12VHPWR to 2 8pins adaptor.

So wouldn’t a 12VHPWR to 4 8pins adaptor be better , like the ones that comes "free" with the card ?

Once you get a kill-a-watt, you'll be surprised of just how little power modern systems use. I'm VERY comfy having a measly 550w power supply (but god quality mind you, china garbage does not compute) these days.

Kill-a-watt measures average power. If that was the case a 5600x + 6900 XT could run a 450w psu no problem.

These adapters may be used for up to 300W for each connector on the PSU side, Seasonic would not offer them if they were not save.

And the PCIe cables that came with the PSU connect two PCIe 8-Pin with one connector on the PSU side as well.

Guys doesn’t matter, the psu just DIED!

I was playing and it suddenly turned off then everything turned on and off very fast for 2-3 times and that’s it. The moment I hit the button to turn on it turns on for like 0.1 seconds and then shuts off even without connecting the card. Connected a rmx750 really quick and seems it passes the codes just fine.

Very strange that I can feel some electricity outside and inside the case even with the other psu not touching the case.

When i had to RMA my Seasonic TX 750 i asked if i could keep the SATA power cables because i needed some extra ones and Seasonic said i could just keep those cables
They also say not to return the PSU in the box but i did that anyway just to be sure it would not get banged around and get damaged

Overall the RMA was pretty good but it was very annoying that it cost half the PSU to ship it to Germany

There's a kitguru review out there (It does seem to be the older Seasonic TX 1000, not the one with fixed OCP issues), which they got up to 1300W maximum load.

Interesting review none the less. I wouldn't see a problem.

On a side note, when did you buy your TX1000? Don't forget the "Prime Ultra Titaniums" did not play nice with even the 3000 series due to OCP kicking in. Seasonic will definitely give you a newer one as they don't make the Prime Ultra Titaniums anymore.

My replacement just arrived after all this time! But there wasn’t any stock for the seasonic psus. So the store recommended me instead a Corsair HX1500i + the new 12VHPWR power cable for that psu , so I believe that I will be totally fine with that. I am glad that I won’t have to use the adapter.
