I just bought this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138079 (actually, that last review, is mine, lol)

Its a Socket 487 board. It came with DDR2 and PCIe x16 (Not 2.0). The only thing I use this computer for is WoW and facebook.

I'm on a tight budget, so what do you think are good spec's? (I'm partial to NVidia, but don't really care on this computer)

Do I need 256mb, 512mb or 1gb?
Is a 9400GT enough?

Will a PCIe x16 2.0 card work in a standard PCIe x16 slot?

I'm surprised to see PCI-e x16 and DDR2 support on such an old socket.

Of course the more memory the better.

I'd recommend the GF 9600GSO for $34.99 after rebate.

Yes, they're backwards compatible so you shouldn't have any problems.

That's a gimped GSO.
128-bit bus instead of 192-bit.
1400mhz instead of 1600mhz memory clock.

That said, I believe it's the best option under $60 (Before rebates), at least on newegg

For those games and budget, you're looking at an HD4670 or a 9600GSO GDDR3.

If you decide on the GSO, make sure it's the GDDR3 version, and not the gimped out DDR2 one.

I very much appreciate it! This onboard video is hating this 1920x1080 resolution, lol.

What's so bad about the 9400GT's? I can pick up a referbished one from a local store for $28+tax. Seemed cheap to me.

Should I buy something better? Maybe I should up the price to $100?

9400GT's will hate 1920x1080 just as much as your onboard.

For a little under $100 you can get a 4850 (Assuming your PSU is suitable)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-162-_-Product

EDIT: However, I think a 4650 will be a better value for you. Any CPU you use on Socket 478 will bottleneck badly.

I have the same motherboard, lol.

That "gimped" 9600GSO with 128-BIT bus is still better than the ones with 512MB DDR2 and 128-BIT bus with 64SP's. I have the one listed 9600GSO, DDR3, 96SP's, 128-BIT bus. Runs GRiD on high with 4xAA 1280x1024,

Just out of curiosity what CPU do you have in there?

There are no 64sp GSO's
The 48sp ones have a 256-bit bus as they are basically cut down 9600GT's.

EDIT: DDR2 GSO's with a 192-bit bus still have more bandwidth than the Asus suggested above. (24Gb/s vs 22.4GB/s) , assuming a modest 500mhz clock (1000mhz DDR)

(1000mhz GSO's such as the XFX PV-T96O-SDF4 and PV-T96O-S1S4)

Really, all the GSO's available on newegg right now are but mere shadows of the ones sold in the past.

Its a pentium 4 2.8GHz I believe. Not near it at the moment, I'll check when I get home. It has hyper-threading I believe.

So, for $100 and under with a 1920x1080 monitor the best choice would be...?
(I prefer NVidia)

I only have a 350W psu. It came with my Elite 331 case.

Why on earth have you bought such a piece of trash motherboard?

One of the worst manufacturers, worst chipset, mATX generaly SUX, and an integrated VGA will crash alot of your games i promise! I had a VIA P4M800 motherboard - and it crashed half of my 3D games - i have tried about 5 different solutions - it's a damnation..

Do you know you could have bought an Asus P5KPL for that 50 $? OMG..

Just because you've had bad experiences doesn't mean others will.

Learn some respect.

Wow, you are very "special".

1st: Its a socket 478, not 775.
2nd: I wanted mATX.
3rd: This thread is to help me decide on a Video card, thus not using the onboard video.
4th: Don't be so rude.

Try being passive-aggressive...not aggressive. It works better and still makes you feel better.

Sorry if my large vocabulary offends you.

That is a significantly more polite way of saying the same thing! Thanks!

Anyways...

I'm not even sure what I want to do with this computer now...
