Z790 - What is your C1E setting after latest BIOS update with 0x12B?

If someone has a system different than Asus it would be really helpful to see the default state of C1E after BIOS update with microcode 0x12B.


You can check it in Windows using HWInfo64 application.

1. Run HWInfo64 with Summary Screen enabled. That is "Sensor-only" and "Summary-Only" settings are unchecked during HWInfo64 Startup.

2. Go to Summary Screen

3. Click on you PC name and then on CentralProcessor(s), and then on your CPU name.

4. In right panel scroll down to "Enhanced Features" and check value of "Extended Auto-HALT State C1E"


N/A, "Not Supported" or "Supported, Disabled" means it is not enabled in CPU and there is no throttling to 800MHz.

Here on my system with previous microcode 0x129.

on MSI I've had that option in bios for many different bios versions including the last one and I always set it to enabled unless I'm testing/experimenting with something that needs all power saving features disabled

Can you disable C1E in BIOS on MSI motherboard with microcode 0x12B?

I know Asus enabled C1E in BIOS and blocked it. It looks like for no good reason. I'm curious how it is for other motherboard vendors. Maybe the new microcode 0x12B enforces it or something.

Asus BIOS change log.
1.Updated with Intel microcode 0x12B to address elevated voltage requests during idle or light activity, further mitigating Vmin Shift instability issues.
2.The option to disable C1E in the BIOS has been removed to ensure it remains enabled, reducing processor stress and maintaining stability per Intel's recommendation.

You can check it in Windows, just follow these steps.
I suggest downloading a portable version of HWInfo64.


It will show "Extended Auto-HALT State C1E" in HWInfo64 Summary screen as disabled if the setting in BIOS actually works. Also your CPU clocks should not throttle to 800MHz during light CPU load.

Steps:

CPU is throtling while C1E is enabled.
If C1E would be enabled on CPU, regardless of BIOS option, it will throttle down Pcores to 800Mhz whenever possible. Like on picture bellows Pcores 2-7.

I finally updated the BIOS on my ASRock Z790 PG-ITX/TB4 to 0x12B.

The "CPU C1E State Support" disappeared from the BIOS, HWInfo reports it is enabled.
I had to disable C1E State Support in previous BIOS versions because of terrible mouse stuttering.
With the newest BIOS the system runs complete smooth, not one nitpick to find.
Furthermore it seems that the now by default enabled C1E State Support leads to 1-2 W less power draw in idle.
