Make sure you read my UPDATE HERE!
________________________________________________________________________

I wanted to show some pictures of my HP zr24w (IPS, 1200p) and Samsung s23a750D (120hz, 1080p) in dual monitor setup..side by side comparison. I know a lot of people debate about IPS vs 120hz...a few months ago..I got both because I couldn't decide either.

The panels, screen size, and resolution are very different on both these monitors..but they work surprising well together because, even though the monitors are different in many aspects...they have almost the exact same pixel pitch.

Also the colors are pretty similar (not exact) to the untrained eye, even though I only spent about 15 minutes with the standard calibration settings on each...believe it or not. I'm sure they can be even more similar with further tweaking.

These pictures below will show the color differences between the monitors (which I think are minor for most people), as well as how these monitors look/lineup in dual screen setup. FYI - I keep the Samsung slightly in front of the HP because the bezel is smaller.

(Depending at what angle you are viewing at...the lines that go across the monitors below - do match up almost exactly. The angle I took the picture with my camera is not the same as the viewing angle (or rather head position) I sit at...so the picture below is slightly different than how I actually see it lined up from where I sit..if that makes sense).

Lastly, for kicks...I also posted a few pictures of my IPS HP zr24w (1920x1200) vs. my 4 YEAR OLD Samsung 2253LW TN panel (1600x900)...the difference is shocking. Can't believe I ever used that piece of junk.

Updated my original post... not sure how well the pictures came out...or how helpful they are in showing the differences (or lack of)...but too lazy to retake/redo again...anyways, hope this is helpful to someone out there.

Maybe its just me but I prefer the PQ of the 750D over the zr24W. The colors seem more vibrant.....

tbh...me too...i think it's because the AG matted coating on the IPS makes the colors look slightly washed compared to the glossy Samsung 750D, which is more vibrant and slightly smoother looking.

^ lol I do have both...but I don't know the first thing about recording the speed difference...sorry.

For most gaming I go favor the 23" 1080p 120hz..however, 24" 1200p IPS is visually more pleasing in terms of size. HP might work better for slower RTS games...i guess...not sure. FPS games are def. better on 120hz though. Honestly, if you use one enough I am sure you get used to either for gaming...it's just noticeable since I have them side by side.

My Ideal Monitor: High Quality Glossy Samsung 24" 1200p 120hz...too bad it doesn't exist...I have half of each in both monitors. lol

Just an update: A buddy of mine was over last weekend and we both were playing GW2 beta. He used the my Samsung 120hz....I used my IPS.

The IPS colors were actually much better and looked more vibrant/colorful....i'm not 100% sure why...because when I use both monitors in dual screen mode...the Samsung does feel more vibrant on desktop/normal usage (glossy ftw)....but in-game...I guess I felt like the IPS just had more colors than the Samsung, which seemed slightly flatter in comparison.

Now...the fact that he was using his PC w/ the Samsung and I was using my PC w/ IPS..i guess could of affected the outcome to some degree...not 100% sure (perhaps his gfx card color settings?).

Lastly, the IPS having more colors makes sense..of course...and I think the fact that GW2 is soooo colorful (devs must of used very detailed/complex colors) really let the IPS shine over the Samsung 120hz TN when it comes to colors.

So all I can conclude right now, is that when comparing normal webpage/desktop colors...the Samsung looks better..since the colors are more basic/simply (glossy screen wins)...but when more unique colors (GW2) are displayed the IPS visually looks better and more vibrant. That said, the IPS 1200p is def. much better for web browsing / work and the 120h is much better for FPS and other fast paced games, if you can achieve 70fps+ ..smoothness.

Nevertheless, the colors on both monitors were actually quite nice and satisfactory. I still think the Samsung 700D/750D has the best colors of any TN display on the market.

My buddy actually fell in love with the Samsung glossy screen and wants to buy one himself now. lol. Glossy screens do smooth out the image more than matted screens...but I've really never had an issue or noticed the IPS AG coating...unless its right next to the Samsung - then i'll notice it.

I do like both monitors for different reasons...i would still be very split even today deciding between the two. Good thing I have both.

I needed this a lot thanks OP!
I haven't seen one in real life but I have a feeling that IPS is overrated. the new TN panels seem good in pictures! (I have a galaxy s7 edge with a good display. I view this kind of stuff on it. my 7 year old tn trashy monitor looks black and white compared to it, but i'm hoping my xl2730z will be different! I'll buy it in a month or week)
