Hiya guys,

I ended up with some White NZXT FZ Series Fans (non LED) with plans of painting them.Well i got a big surprise when i when to remove the blades. They totally plugged the whole completely. So this was a Major issue for me as you could imagine as white was not the color they were going to be.

I went into this expecting to destroy a fan to find the answer.

To see what i was dealing with i got out a Milling bit and started plunging into the plug that was blocking access to the Plastic ring that holds the blades on.

Here are the results:

After doing this i discovered the blades could be popped off by applying pressure evenly on the fan close to the motor.I imagine doing this to many times will wear the washer out and ruin the fan. But for me it seems i found an answer to move on with my build.

Here is another Fan where i just Popped the fan off and it Pops right back on

So there it is. NZXT FZ Series Fans can be re oiled and Painted!

Hope this helps someone else out there with the same issue.

I decided to go ahead and add the painting of the Fans to the Guide also so here it is:

Painting the Fans:

I decided to go with Krylon Fusion Plastic paint because it bonds to plastic like crazy. I Highly Recommend it!

Process i did to paint them was:

Popped the blades off.

700

Made a circle to cover the Magnets out of cardboard.

700

Gave the fans a quick sanding with 440 grit sandpaper.(Can use anything close)

Then i cleaned the blades really good with a 70% Alcohol found at any Pharmacy. (This cleans any oils or dirt in the fans to avoid peeling or fish eyes.

700

Next with the Fusion plastic Pain i used no Primer just the paint.I did one fan first using Adhesion Promoter but when i seen how well the Fusion Help to plastic i didn't bother using it for the last 9 Fans. And i am in no way worried about them. The fusion paint if the blades are prepped right is all that's needed. (If you feel safer using the Adhesion Promoter then its fine to use)

700

Now just Pop the Fans back together as soon as the fusion Paint dries.Fusion Paint dries very fast if you apply light coats.

And the Final Results. Goodbye white Fans. Hello Sexy Red!

Take Care, MybadOmen

EDIT: Actually now that i think about it popping the blades off are no more Risky then pulling the Plastic clip off. They both have their risks.

well done MyBadOmen!

Glad someone else tried this first!

Yeah its no problem i just finished 10 of them and they all work perfect. Just Pop the blades off with even Pressure .Not on the blades them selves but as close to the center as possible.

Here are some of mine done:

Thanks its really close to the red i wanted so i am very happy with it. And wow those are the easiest fans to take apart yet. You honestly just pop them off let them dry and pop them back on.

FZ series Fans? They are great! Push the same airflow as 2000 rpm fans at only 1000 rpm. I put them up against my Viper 140's and they were pretty darn close in performance and the FZ took way less power and are really silent.

If the paint on the blades you are talking about. Will make hardly any difference at all unless you bury them with paint.I did a very light tack coat. Then on more light coat over that and they look fine.10 fans and barely used any of the paint.

Good to hear on the performance of the FZ series fans. I would love to see a review of these fans by Martin.

Does the Havik 120 happen to use NZXT FZ fans? Cause mine at full voltage are maybe 40db and push possibly about the same as my friends Ultra Kaze, but when under volted to 5v, they are barely audible and still have a respectable amount of airflow.

I doubt it the FZ Series are brand new. And i have a Havik 140 sitting next to me that has different fans.I might actually be using the Havik 140 Fans for Intake fans. The new Havik's coming out may have the FZ fans though. Remember the NDA was just lifted April 3rd for the FZ fans. Thats how new they are.

Yea i know the NDA was lifted recently, but my Havik 120 uses the 13 straight fin design?

Edit: I was switching out the stock thermal paste for for NT-H1 today and the fans that are provided with the Havik 120 are indeed FZ series. Amazing fans imo, but do need to be controlled with a fan controller for silent operation. At full blast they are quite loud but push an amazing amount of air. Good job NZXT

Wow interesting. Not sure then my Havik 140 has these Blades.below and are 90.3 CFM @ 1200 +/- 10% RPM. and take 3.6 watts to push them.

Actually you are right on the money! The Havik 120 uses FZ Fans. Here is all the info. (At least it was revamped with the FZ's)

Havik 120 Features:

Features
• Revamped 120mm FZ Fans with 13 blades for intense silent cooling
• Nickel-plated copper base material
• Four 8mm pipes and aluminum fins for attaining maximum dissipation into fans
• Fan speeds up to 1500 +/- 10% RPM and 22 dBA silent cooling with airflow of 75.8 CFM
• Aero-dynamic fin design for improved airflow
• Universal bracket compatible with Intel and AMD CPUs
• Rubber mounting for noise absorption

Hope this Helps and Grats on the Nice Fans!

Hi, I got two Thermaltake Thunderblade 80mm LED fans and when I tried to disassemble I found a hard-end plastic protector like the one exposed here with the NZXT FZ fans series; maybe the mine should be like the NZXT, so if I try to disassemble how it says here, I will do it right, doesn´t?

Any help will be very useful (i don´t want to loose my 80mm fans).
