The folks at ET3 want to make what they call "Evacuated Tube Transport" a reality. Their proposed maglev system would be capable of propelling six-person-capacity cylinders to speeds of over 4000 miles per hour, making it possible for people to travel from New York to L.A. in just 45 minutes, or from New York to Beijing in two hours.

pretty interesting

cheaper to run and build than high speed rail. its also much more efficient. I think it would be cheaper than flying actually

What if you had to go to the bathroom or you really needed a cig? Cool concept regardless, I still see it being quite unfeasible for quite a while however.

Well smoking hasn't been legal on public transport in the United States for almost 30 years. So thats not an issue. ( and trust me 2 hours without a smoke is a lot less than the 20 hours it is now from NY to Beijing) as for bathrooms.. i bet they'll equip them with a bathroom.

Well if you need a cig, you pretty much can't smoke inside anyway. For good reasons
As for bathroom, go beforehand. If you can't hold it for 2 hours then you probably need to see a doctor.

This reminds me of that tube train from Dreamfall: The Longest Journey

Probably have a few pit stops along the way.

how many of these would be needed for mass travel? Tubes all over the place... Or perhaps send one behind the other... Though, do you want to be in the second card if the first has an error or stalls. I don't think 4K speed collisions would be fun...

We can dream?
