Long story short. I had Sapphire TRI-x r9 290x and Samsung UD590... once set to 4k it would flicker and not hold the signal. all other resolutions were fine. Swapped the 290x for a gtx 780ti and everything has worked fine ever since.

I had a friend bring over his REFERENCE 290x and with Unigine Valley running for 30 mins and IT FREAKING WORKS.... The card with the crazy squirrel cage cooler that is loud as hell works.

Not sure what to make of it... We used the latest drivers and a new certified 6ft 1.2 DP cable with latches on both ends.
I have an old asus 290x whit stock cooler but that aint working either. I am going to get the 780Ti instead.

Just a little update.

Received my replacement and all looks good so far.

No flickering or loss of signal

However the popping is still there but very faint compared to the other 2 monitors.

Will update again after further testing/gaming.

Hi there just wanted to chime in on this as i am experiencing the flickering / popping problems as well.

Screen is the PB287Q
3840x2160 @ 60hz screen pops / flickers / tears / goes black.
3840x2160 @ 30hz fine
2880x1620 @ 60hz screen also flickers and pops but not as bad (this is probably subjective though).
2880x1620 @ 30hz fine

I am using a (single) Sapphire R290 Tri-X in an intel system with a Gigabyte MB.

I am also using the included cable. I will see if i cant get a hold of a different displayport cable and test that later in the week.

Video with both flickering and the screen going black here:

Pardon the unsteady camera hand.

Anyways i figure i might try the custom 2560x1440 resolution, but if this isn't resolved i will probably have to return the screen next week. Well that or buy a Nvidia 780 something something *sigh*

Me too, Brother ... tested today with the new Lenovo DP 1.2 cable and 2 Sapphire 290 reference cards - new inf there, flickering..

I RMA'd the monitor for a refund at new egg. They waved the restocking fee. Probably going to just stick with a QHD DVI-D dual link since displayport is riddled with problems. Or just stick with my 1900x1200 dell panel.

In the end the picture was pretty stable, I got some white pixels flicking on the right side right on the edge , but it would not wake from sleep and if it did it would blank out after about 60 seconds of use and had to be completely unplugged.

I was chatting with someone and they seemed not surprised that, DP was having sleep issues. It's funny cause I deployed up 20 dell PC's with 1900x1200 Displayport screens about 2 years ago, I though the connector was solid. That and the complete lack of comments from the preview media coverage about these issues, really lead me to believe 4k @ 60hz was here and trouble free.

Alright - but which specs. Standard timings, reduced timings or the fact that VESA allows for any timing you want really.

Lets simplify - what's a correct modeline for this display? The one my monitor is stating in EDID isn't correct (certainly doesn't match what you said or the standard reduced timings) - if I can get a correct modeline I can plug it into a linux box and verify/discount AMD's drivers.

Okay so it's a different panel? What panel is it then? There's only one panel I know of matching the specs and I don't really want to get a screwdriver out to confirm.

Doesn't flicker quite that fast on my ASUS. It's like on for 10 seconds, flickers off for 3, comes back for 20 then goes off for another 5, then on for 2 seconds and so on. It isn't uniform flicker in the same way.

It's slightly different but as I've said before the issues are far too similar to be a coincidence.

Speaking of custom resolutions (people talking about 1440p etc) the max I've got mine to run without choking is 2880x1620 - at 3200x1800 the flicker starts to kick in. Not to say windows is happy about 2880x1620 (aero turns off and there's tearing and stuff) but the display itself is stable up at this point - does look completely normal in 1440p though.

Same here . Even the updated INF and the new drivers did not work. OK, nothing to be done --back to Nvidia

Apart from the common black screen issue I'm now also noticing very high input lag, at least 150ms behind my DELL U2713HM, which is itself a poor performer in response time. I stretched an image slideshow across the two screens and filmed at 120fps, the PB287Q lagged behind almost 20 frames. Anyone else noticing unusually high input lag?

I also compared input lag between resolutions, and there was no difference between 1080p and 4K which is strange.

I'm running 2 Sapphire 290 Tri-X cards in crossfire and have issues with this. I did not have any issues on my UD590 using Displayport or my Seiki 39" 4k tv over hdmi 1.4. I've turned off the speaker in the monitor and that got rid of the popping sound. I'll probably return this monitor once the $500 AOC 4K monitor in on Amazon or Newegg, but am willing to help troubleshoot until then. Does anyone know if the new 14.6 RC2 driver helps at all?

Yeah now that you mention it the mouse does feel sluggish on my PB287q running 2560x1440@60hz compared to my U2713HM's I do not have a camera to test it at the moment though.

It also feels sluggish running 4k@30hz though that might be the 30hz, I am not sure

The AMD RC2 Driver has not really helped for me i'm sad to say.

Still Tearing / Screen goes black, might have reduced the frequency of the screen going black a little but that is about it.

Btw i remember someone asking if muting the screen eliminated the popping sound, and yes no popping sound when screen is muted.

/edit Input lag also feels the same.

Also i am on Win 8.1

@Hymer Click add button near the top of the screen. Type in 2560x1440, set the drop down menu at the top to standard LCD, set refresh rate to 60Hz at the bottom. Leave everything else default. Hit apply or save then reboot and you should have 1440p option available.
