I have a Gigabyte motherboard with built in Bluetooth support. I tried to pair it to a bluetooth speaker (which works fine with my tablet) but the bluetooth application cannot detect any bluetooth devices.

The motherboard also has built in wifi but because I have a hard connection for internet, I do not bother with the wifi antenna when it is at my desk.

Does the bluetooth require the antenna to be connected in order to detect bluetooth devices?

Thanks

Depends on the hardware but in your case its looks like its an wifi/Bluetooth combo card that use the same antenna for both wifi and Bluetooth. In short yes it needs to be connected (assuming there is no separate antenna for the Bluetooth)

ON closer inspection it looks like it does have seperate connectors for the Bluetooth and wifi but the shipped antenna has connectors for both
