As most people are possibly aware. Pantyhose are great fan filters, They only have the downside of being hard to replace and/or clean.

In an effort to help that a little bit, I cut out a crude plate that I was going to stretch them over and then fasten to the fan. This way I could dust them without worrying about having to re-stretch or potentially rip them.

The issue comes when trying to secure them. I tried staples and it didn't go too well. I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions as to what I could do that wouldn't rip them and preferably not be glue, so they're easy to replace if they need to be.

You can see my bad efforts here: http://imgur.com/a/85Lg7

I could buy a demciflex filter, but they are expensive to have shipped. This cost two dollars so far.

I don't know if it will work, but have you considered stretching them like you have done and running a bead of super glue around the vent hole. After glue cures you should be able to cut around it so only the hole has pantyhose on it.

Meh, seems like more work than it needs to be, easier to pay like 6-7$ for a product that is designed to be easy to use and probably just as good, only downside is shipping which will cost like 5-6$ extra probably..

I want to avoid glue so I have an easier time removing the pantyhose at a later time. They eventually become too dirty.

I might glue if I cannot come up with something better.

I'm in Canada. It's for a Bitfenix Spectre Pro 230mm, two of them. Filter has to have 19cm inner and then the outer has to be something so I can attach to the fan somehow. Minimum I am looking at 30 dollars.

Make an extra wood frame for the pantyhose that mounts in front of the fan. You could even put some round magnets in it to hold it in place.

I'm thinking that on a 200mm fan, the panty hose mesh -- which is oh so pliable -- would sag into the fan. Either it needs to be held away from the fan or the mesh needs to be draped over sterner stuff, which would supply the support. I'm thinking a fingerguard would do it.

Edit: Ah yes. Make extra margins so the corner can be tucked under the finger guard. That was the fingerguard and filter install as a single unit. No fingerguard? Something keeps fingers out. Whatever it is, the nylon goes on top of that.

The wood is 5mm thick, the pantyhose is mounted away from the fan. It isn't being sucked/sagging in enough to have me concerned.

This is how it mounts: wood frame - fan - frame with pantyhose

This is a window fan. Store kinds were too loud.

I would glue it to a fan grill guard. One of the cheap flat ones. Then it is modular. Or a sheet of metal (open square), and use magnets.

Indeed!

With or without fingerguard, make a frame for filter

Clothespins and a piece of wood. Roll the pantyhose around the piece of word, stretch it and use the clothespins to hold the piece of wood tightly in place.

I don't have any. I told my brother to take some of those big binding clips from work.

Embroidery hoops are great, but often need t be lined to get them to hold the stretched pantyhose. Sheer curtains work well in embroidery hoops too.
