I just upgraded my 2 7870XT's to 2 RX 480s..

the performance is very good.. i can run all the games in play in ultra with all the options at max..

the problem is, i am getting blue screens and driver reboots while playing games... its very unstable..

i been reading up on the power draw from the pci-e slot.. would this cause this?

would it help if i set my powerlimit to -10% or so?

i got the XFX cards, but i did not buy the overclocked ones.. mine run at 1288..

my system is

AMD FX 8350 @ 4.6ghz
Gigibyte 990FXA UD3 REV 4
16GB 1866 CL9 DDR3

I believe 1288 is the overclocked version. Reference is 1266. How long do you get to play before a crash? What PSU do you have?

What I would do if I was in this situation is back off the CPU overclock and run furmark/OCCT burn in test on the GPUs and see if it still happens. It could be the GPUs pulling too much power or it could be the whole system. Maybe even try with one card only.

no there is a XFX black edition OC. it runs at 1328.

im glad i didnt pay the extra 40$ to get those.

for now what i did was lower the clocks down 10% in the dynamic section, and lowered the powerlimit -20%

ill see if it keeps crashing.

I presume blue screens are 100% related to the memory controller, so do what you want with this tip. If MSI Afterburner auxiliary voltage option is available, you might benefit from increasing it a bit, though in this case decreasing memory frequency would be the easier shortcut.

You sure that 8350 is not choking a bit at 4.6Ghz on that wee lil AIO you have?

yep 100% certain.. ive had this pc for almost 3 years.. my cpu temp never gets above 50c most of the time its under 20c

never had any driver crashes or blue screens before with my XT's which were heavily overclocked..

i did a google search for crimson driver crash and it seems many people are having an issue, even with other cards besides the rx 480.

If you are speaking the Crimson 16.6.2 Hotfix, I installed that over the weekend and shortly after had my first crash in a long time. I say shortly after, but really it was more of an hour or two of gaming. I think this was due to the fan being set to 49% instead of using Afterburners auto fan profile. So it overheated.

FYI, I have a R9 285.

I can confirm that . 16.6.6.2 messed up my FuryX overclock as well. I got 2 driver crashes when playing CSGO WITHOUT GPU OC.

Crimson said there was an update, so I updated.

'WattMan' still shows up as overdrive.

I think 16.2 were my first crashes and the first time I saw many. 17.1 seemed to knock most of it out. Clock's just stock and it happily sits at 1266 without issue only coming down when offload.

Supports the others, just less stable. Ran 16.2 with my 380 and it didn't bother my fancurves in AB. Did crash ROTR though.

I updated my driver also to include the Wattman. Then i got multiple crashes after enabling it.

Then i reinstalled without Wattman. Its better now, still crashes but more seldom.

My specs are:

Windows 10 64 bit
Z87-A Socket-1150
Intel Core i5-4670K
Corsair Vengenance DDR3 1600 MHz XMP
XFX RX 480 8 GB Black edition
Corsair SSD Force Series GS 128 GB
Corsair RX 750 W PSU
