The GTX 1070 Katana measures just 16mm thick and uses what Galax calls a turbo radiator-a fancy name for a thin cooling solution. Underneath the pancaked shroud is a copper cooling fin and vapor chamber contraption to draw heat away from the GPU and memory. Strategically placed holes in the bracket allow heat to escape.

Galax built a custom PCB for this card. The company says it uses high-quality components in its construction, but doesn't go into detail other than say it features an optimized electrical circuit.

Not only does this air cooled card take up just a single slot, it's also factory overclocked. Galax pushed the base and boost clockspeeds to 1,518MHz and 1,708MHz, respectively, up from Nvidia's reference clocks of 1,506MHz (base) and 1,683MHz (boost).

Finally

I have always wondered why this was not attempted on the GTX970 since Maxwell is relatively cool.

I have always wanted one, I thought those days were gone. The 8800GT and the ATI 4850 were the last high end cards in a single slot config.

Drawback will be a noisy fan but I can live with that.

Galax is going in the right way. I want to see something like this not only slim as it is but also low profile in the future so I can build kickass gaming HTPC. Size does matter, but in computers it should be reveresed. You wanna look at computers and say: look how small and sexy this is. When I see bigger and bigger cases with glass and rainbow leds I am begining to wonder what went wrong.

Nice card.

Though, not a big fan of Galax when it was Galaxy.

Would never answer any support emails or return calls. EVER. Drove me absolutely insane. Thank God for Amazon.

I know it's a different'ish company now, but I remain hesitant to purchase anything from them, regardless of how nice their cards are.

I thought those problems were solved years ago.

Seven cards will be just fine its when you start passing eight you can run into windows driver problems. I will note that your not going to get full 16x only 8x on most from the plx switching.

You are correct most of the bios oddities have been ironed out for boards like these.

Edit: formating

Something about Single slot looks right. Seeing the cooler I would say it will be effective. HD 4850 had single slot with 114W TDP. GTX1070 has 150W but this is better cooler. Not sure why card with less TDP are not single slot.

this isn't low profile that will fit in a HTPC, right?

Is this coming State side? I know it was Chinese market only months bACK.
