Bad Samsung 960 Evo M.2 NVMe SSD

I've run a few benchmarks and found that my M.2 SSD is underperforming quite significantly.
Does anyone know if this is just a bad drive, or if this is a software issue? Fresh build, fresh install of windows and all chipset drivers updated. NVMe SSD driver & firmware updated to latest.

You're right. It does. What's the deal with that? My motherboard is an ASUS Prime Z370-A and should support pcie 3.0 x4

Some notes from Asus
1 x M.2 Socket 3 with M Key, type 2242/2260/2280 storage devices support (SATA mode & X4 PCIE mode)
1 x M.2 Socket 3 with M Key, type 2242/2260/2280 storage devices support (PCIE mode only)

*1. The M.2_1 socket shares SATA_1 port when use M.2 SATA mode device. Adjust BIOS settings to use a SATA device.
*2. The M.2_2 socket shares SATA_56 ports when use M.2 PCIE mode device in X4 mode. Adjust BIOS settings to use M.2 PCIE devices in X4 mode.

Which slot do you have it in?

It's currently in M.2_1. I'll switch it over to M.2_2 as I only just discovered it, concealed under a heatsink which looked like it was mostly decoration

I also noticed that my SSD is says "stornvme" while the other one says "secnvme"
Can someone tell me the difference? I believe stornvme is windows related whereas secnvme is samsungs driver... Though I installed all the drivers from samsung mine still says stornvme.

My 500GB 960 is using secnvme with the 2.3 driver from Samsung, i believe you are right about stornvme being the M$ driver from a quick google search of that name......
