more old school fool...
a rather modified Lian Li PC-A71FB

again, ancient hardware:

SuperMicro X8DAH (dual socket 1366)
2x Intel Xeon X5690, with ThermalRight Ultra Extreme 120 Black Editions
12x 16GB Kingston DDR3 ECC+REG
Intel 520 180GB SSD, with ProxMox as OS
GigaByte 1200W Odin PSU
HighPoint 1144(?) (4x USB3.0 with PCIEx8 so that all ports get full bandwidth)
HIS AMD HD5450 PCIEx1 <- comes from the factory as an PCIEx1 v.card!
Chelsio quad port 10Gb SFP+ NIC
Hotlava(?) hex-port Intel GbE NIC
Pioneer IDE DVDRW
Sony or Pioneer FDD, yes a floppy drive... because I could

no HBA, yet

I've mod-mounted two ThermalRight 120/140mm fans; one is sitting on top of a 120mm fan frame. Both these are to cool IOH + expansion cards.

Purpose: yet to set-up server. Eventually NextCloud, Hauk, ATAK, TrueNAS, + other VMs.

here is a pic I grabbed from google images to show original case interior lay-out:

so about the mod(s) you are about to see..

1) door removed
2) main HDD cage (at front) removed
2) there are two C beams running the length of the case.. both of these connect to the cage @ top/rear (this cage can be used either to hope PSU or 3x HDDs. Both beams, and the cage have been removed. The inner beam was attached to the mobo tray.
So now the story.. I was browsing eBay, came across the aforementioned SuperMicro X8DAH mobo.. it was brand new, never used etc etc, and at a darn good price, so bought it straight away. Ha! Mistake! It's a EE-ATX mobo <- that's not a typo, that's supposed to be two E's. EATX = Extended ATX. EE-ATX = Enhanced Extended ATX. Most s1366 mobos have 6x DIMM slots per socket, this mobo has 9.
I had to mod the case to fit the mobo... the square alu bracket attachs to the mobo tray, extending to so-to-speak, so that the top three screw mounts of the mobo actually have something to go into. If you compare images of an EEATX & EATX mobo, you'll noticed that on an EEATX mobo the rear I/O is a little further down the mobo, whereas on a EATX (& ATX), the rear I/O starts at the corner.

All removed parts obviously kept, should I want to revert to original.

and continuing...
Lian Li PC-201A

no actual computer system in this case!
SuperMicro JBPWR2 (ATX control card) <- not a mobo!
Chenbro CK23601 36 port SATA/SAS expander, with a mod-mounted chipset heatsink from AliExpress
SilverStone FS305B (3x 5.25" to trayless/toolless 5x 3.5" hotswap SATA/SAS)
(3x Samsung SATA DVDRWs, not actually connected, need to remove)
XFX 550W PSU
12x 2TB SATA HDDs (WD Purples, Toshibas, Hitachis) + 1x 2TB cold spare

Purpose: Windows DAS (Direct Attached Storage) box. My Windows 11 box has a LSI SAS2008 HBA, it has 2x 8088 external ports, this connects to the Chenbro expander. The HDDs are configured with SnapRAID + StableBit DrivePool (double parity, 'RAID6')

again, door removed
yes the PSU extender part at the back is the genuine Lian Li part, precisely for that purpose. The original rear plate of the case itself has been hacked up, so that a single 120mm fan can be mounted (instead of 2x 80mm fans)

Bought a PNY Verto OC RTX 4090 which is 332mm long and it just fits in my case. (my case has room for a 330mm long video card

) I am putting in an Arctic 140mm slim fan in the middle front spot even though the regular 140mm fan just clears the beast. These video cards are ridiculously large now and this was one of the smallest ones I could find. Only the 4090FE is smaller and I couldn't find it anywhere.

May as well post these, its been complete for a number of months now, was a pain to get everything where I wanted and I did not add a drain tap as I didnt want to drill into the chassis :D

I have this case which is a Lian-Li D-600 case. The "D" is for double size case. The motherboard side has a plastic window for display of your goodies and the light show. The other side has room for fan controllers, your DVD drives and any other 5.25" gadget you might want to add. What did you do with your DVD/CD ROM drives? Did you toss them because you can't put them in your new case? I think new cases look nice but they limit your options. I know no one uses a DVD anymore and fan control is in mobo software now but I'm still a little old school and I like having a knob to tweak rather than open up a program or transferring all my files to newer media right now. Anyway out with the old and in with the new, it seems. I wish I had kept my Lian-Li D6000 case. I could have put my D-600 case inside of it and still had room.

?? did you mean to quote someone else?
mongoled's case is not a D600, it looks like it is a PC-O11. Also, there is no D6000, it's a D8000:

Thanks for the correction. I was just doing a comparison and I did a typo. The PC-011 is the new larger case but there's no room for the old school stuff that I still have, even with the mesh front. New cases for new components. Time to adjust.

I thought long and hard about not having access to a DVD/CD drive in this build. Seeing I have access to several other PC/notebooks I deemed it as a non necessary item.

Saying that I did look into housing the DVD drive in the back of the case that is used to store 3.5" HDD and researched the types of adapter required to hook up the drive but took it no further

Just need to break out a nibbler or a dremel and get to modding! Make that old school case shine again with the new hardware.

What is the radiator mounted on top? Trying to figure out if I could do a push/pull setup if I upgraded my O11-D to an XL in the future with my HWLabs 360GTX. I had enough room to do just push with it mounted on top of my O11-D

It's quite an oldie, Thermochill PA120.3
Dimensions: 129 x 405 x 60mm

I had the Lian Li 011 XL for my last build. While I liked it, it was a little too tall for my taste. When the Evo was released I jumped on it.

Hi everybody, happy I found this thread and hope someone is still active here!
I don't know why I keep searching the web and forget that 99 times out od 100, the info I need are here...

So, I'm planning to do some changes to my Lian-Li O11 Dynamic XL build and have a couple of questions.

1) I'Are the front panels from Coldzero a quality solution or not?
I read discordant opinions about them, as it's not a cheap product, better ask before to someone who has tested them in real life.

2) My project is to add an Asus Strix 6900XT VGA (AIO cooled), and I'd like to put the radiator in the side slot (fans directions? In or out?).
I'd prefer to have both the radiator and the fans in the back of the case but Lian-Li states an avaliable space of 50mm. in that position, Asus declares a total dimension of 57mm., so it would be an hard fit.... and thinking about alternative solutions, if I put the radiator+push fans inside the case and the pull fans in the back, will it be enough space for the front fans I'm planning to use with Coldzero front panel?

Hope someone may help me... thanks anyway!

Any V3000 Plus owners here? I'm trying to figure out radiator space in the bottom compartment when both HDD cages are present, vs. when only one HDD cage is present, and max thickness of the rad + fans to avoid hitting the PSU.

It seems that when one of the HDD cages is removed, a 480 rad should fit fine, but not sure what the max thickness is. With both HDD cages in place, would a 360 rad fit?

I have one. Cages sit on the one side (back) of the bottom of the case. You can fit a 480 in the front and probably a 240 in the back with both cages. I'm only using one and no internal rada. Case is OK but but the 1000d is better.

Why is the 1000D better? It seems like it would have terrible airflow with all the glass panels everywhere, instead of mesh like the V3000 has. Yeah, there's an airgap, but it will still significantly obstruct airflow.

Whoever said the 1000D has worse airflow (or bad airflow) is talking ****. It's by far the best flowing case out there. 8 front 120s and 8 Top 120s result in lots of air going in and out of the case.
The V3000 is just poorly built in comparison. its glass doors don't close properly, it can't hold as many fans and it's cramped in comparison for rads. It's rotatable Motherboard is a bonus to vertical mount the GPU(which has benefits considering the heat they put out). I own both cases and the 1000D is just better.

Back in an O11, I had a XL full water build a while back and enjoyed the build quality and lay out. Just waiting on a 4090 Strix Heatkiller block and I can convert everything to water. For now everything is on air and running beautifully. Glad to be back!
