If I'm doing it wrong LMK

Have ya'll ran alot of Steel Nomad yet? I've seen some gain points using Vulkan over DX12. On Nvidia cards especially but on the XT and XTX Vulkan on average scores higher. Has anyone looked into this as to why? Reason why I'm asking is because my top score on either API is like 2 points apart. Vulkan simply somehow performs the same. 3DMark standalone, no shenanigans with the settings. The results I get are valid.

I'm chasing the top score incase anyone's wondering.

What do you mean? And what's your hardware problem?
You mean "my" problem? It is that I don't know yet, why my scores are WAY too low compared to you for example. Looking at the SteelNomad chart, I have the highest frequency, same avg as you, but my score just totally sucks. And this is the case with other tests too. Any help and tips are very wellcome.

About the hardware issue, I will not tell it yet, at least until I've verified it with several measurements. But I can tell that there is something fundamentally wrong with these card's design and build. Well, it works at stock 350-400W power levels, but 550W is already starting to show issues. I don't mean the filtering capasitance/ESR, but that is also one thing that is VERY BAD.

Is anyone still using a 7900 XTX MBA card on the stock cooler? Has anyone purchased one recently? Just wondering what temps people get on edge/memory/hotspot and under what scenarios.
I bought mine directly from AMD. The only thing I’ve done is disable the FAN STOP functionality in Adrenaline, and set my minimum fan speed to 40% which is still extremely quiet with this version. My hot spot temps never go over 75c, and yes that’s the hot spot not core temp. I haven’t really monitored the memory junctions, but whatever issues AMD had with these coolers at launch is no longer on the radar at least from what I’ve witnessed. Also that’s with my GPU OCd to 3200mhz core and 2700mhz mem and voltage dropped to 1020mv.

Could you run a 3DMark stress test (say Firestrike Ultra stress test) at stock GPU settings (default in AMD Software) and share your hwinfo64 GPU temp readouts with me?

I’m pretty busy with work, but I’ll try to have some information for you within 24 hours or so. What kind of temps are you getting? I’ll share the screenshot so that you can see everything for yourself.

Just to be clear Fire Strike Ultra is way more intensive than just using your GPU for playing at 1440p or 4k, but what kind of temps are you getting on that same test?

I’ll run it shortly and let you know.
Recorded a video and uploading to YT, but for now he's a few screenshots. This was done first thing in the morning after powering system up, everything default/auto.

IMHO and I could be wrong, but to me its just a difference in quality of silicon, I don't think anyone has abused their card harder than me between my 800w every other day 2 x 8pin on corsair 850w psu xfx 7900 xt black... ON AIR, or this card which has seen over 900w on a 1000w psu also on same air cooling.....I can honestly say, both cards have held up perfectly. other than me slapping off some tiny components down by the pcie teeth off by accident apparently from the xt and causing some black screens, but its 100% fixable according to the FEW ppl that sell those services.... and I bet that card would still rip...

I mean check it out below this XTX just did this steel nomad score few minutes ago, passing devcom, someone who has what like 100+ filters and capacitors added on his card?(not sure on specifics) I mean hes hitting 2980+ on mem he just cranks **** to the moon and goes.... My stretegy is different because it has to be, but it works....and this card is already 6-7 HARD months old, all on AIR cool and 600-1000w benches and ~500W i actually game... I mean Im sure you dont doubt that this card has seen some ****......Its just silicon differences...Memory is a toss up, you know that.. when you're putting voltage to it to go 100's of mhz over stock... Doesnt matter AMD or Nvidia...4090 or 7900....you can see degradation over time.

But I mean look at devcom's diminishing returns compared to my frequencies 2808mhz mem for me 2980 for him.. loll that mem speed is insane... and well it seems several ppl under me seem to be doing well around the same area or frequencies.., ( Nice scores coming out of your rig there @Butanding1987 ) btw.... But just ask butanding if i treat this thing nice....He literally said to me once, dont melt your card homex, trying to win...lol on an open forum...

I def let this baby sing. and its still currently well #1 for now, but def a top contending card on a deshroud with 4x 9$ fans and some ptm, against some pretty stout watered cooled high end hardware rigs. **** I cant even dream of affording, and am secretly salty about how much nicer these rigs are than my beater :p

Also idk how well you've gotten into your evc, but I almost use every voltage and gain now...it took me forever to realize a few simple truths that are shared between a few seemingly unrelated voltages...Devcom really knows the evc best i've seen.... or one of the best i've seen, unless you're able to get elmore on retainer to show you the ropes :p keep pushing. your card will tell you when its time to tap or close to it. Apologies if this post is sloppy....tired. Spent 4 hours railing this stupid new bench.

prost!

Nice score bro!

Not been following your posts since you got an XTX. What brand is it and what ASIC% out of interest?

I'm glad I have the XT and not the XTX so I can also enjoy being a chart leader, atleast until someone on water or with more technical know-how joins in :D

Thanks brutha. Hey is your card still stock power? I remember dude on youtube wondering how the hell you got that high of a timespy score before evc became avail and I was still on the XT!

card is

shiiiiet my XT would at 700w and hittin 7.5k by now :)...I miss that card, the repairs that it needs tho uhg expensive.......the people who do them want ALOOOOT of money to get it done now and skip the wait list.... or much less money if you wait 60+ day waiting list as your card sits on a random shelf somewhere (knocked some caps off down by the pci-e teeth, and it black screens if you run it past stock limits) But nah, nice score man, XT is a beast. soundly slapping around every 4070 model that i've seen touch steel nomad as so far, and I dont even think anyone but me had a voltage mod on an XT? Maybe one other guy? not sure....but beating more expensive cards on stock wattage for less $ feels good for XT owners.

Yeah that original Nitro+ that hit 35700 on Timespy graphics was using the stock air cooler, but with liquid metal. That score was unbeaten for 6+ months until the EVC came along. I ended up selling it a long time ago, wish I'd kept it now. Got a new Nitro+ now but it's not as good as that one. Currently got an MBA card too running on stock cooler and power.

yeah that may have been the ultimate card, for comparison my XTX bone stock did 36k, sounds impressive till you hear I didnt buy it till the xtx was out a YEAR already. SO I had a year worth of matured drivers and I have an obviously good sample here... and still could barely beat your score and you were on those wild ass drivers the first two which either ripped or crashed so hard your head would spin....they also boosted wayyyyy higher and locked up so easy, you would change your top limit 10mhz and it would give you 300 lol... atleast that was my timespy experience on my XT for those 2 drivers...So yeah, you may have had the actual God tier sample. lol. insane.
