Ok so specs
MSI K9A2 Platinum
1 - 9800gx2
CM 750w PSU
AMD phenom II x4 940
1 - Kingston hyperX 2gb 240pin pc2-8500 cl5 in the first slot.

I unplugged my hard drives and disk drives as they are not needed to post.

I plugged in all the power connectors to the mobo like the cpu, cpu fan and everything in the specs is plugged in like the gfx card has its power connected.

I tried switching the gfx card to another slot but I got the same results.

I made sure there are no jumpers on anything like clr cmos for ex.

So I cannot post with this mobo, when I hit the power button 2 lights on the mobo flash on for a millisecond before going off and thats it as well as the fans dont even spin one rotation before going off at the same time as the lights?

Its like a flash of power then its off...?

Plz help as I have no idea whats wrong everything is new.

EDIT: forgot to mention that when I flip the power switch for the PSU an orange light goes on in the mobo Is that normal?

Thx for helping.

Ok theres only 1 ram stick, I just unplugged/plugged back in the cpu connector.

I hit the power button and one of the leds on the mobo went really bright like it was getting to much power or something?

Its still the same quick on/off in a flash thing.

Im going to take the mobo out of the caase and plug in an old AGP card to try and post from that.

Doh it wold help if there was an agp slot, owell I gues Ill have to keep trying to post with the 9800gx2.

MAD_J, thank you for posting the youtube video it was helpful.

Have you tried testing with a different power supply? Was the machine working completely fine before the POSTing issues or was this a new build?

I read over your MSI manual briefly and didn't find any information about the "LED" lights

Good luck

MAD_J, is this a brand new motherboard or used? If it's used I wonder if it was even working in the first place. If it's brand new well then you can easily place a RMA and hopefully get a replacement. Here is some contact information I was able to find on MSI's website: http://www.msicomputer.com/company/msi_contact.asp.

Hope that helps

Ok yay so I fixed it thx to you lot, so it was the PSU I tried my brothers and it started up with the fans etc everything looked normal, I wasn't able to see it post because the gfx card requires a 8pin and the psu didn't have one, but yea that is defiantly the problem.

Bad psu now time to RMA it if I can, it was only 75$ cause it was a refurb so not a big deal if I lose 75$.

Edit: ok so I can return it yay for 90 day return policies!

Hopefully that bad psu didn't hurt anything......

Ok got the new RMAd PSU from coolermaster today and...... It does exactly the same thing as the old one! So somethings wrong here maybe its user error but I doubt it as its not that hard to plug in the mobo connector, cpu connector and video connector to test if it should post. Ah this is such a PITA lol.

Still getting the exact same bright LED as in the vid I posted a while back and this is with the new PSU which was RMAd.

Edit: hmm theres a light on the back of the PSU that never went on maybe my wall socket doesn't have the Juice? Is that even possible?

check the psu on a secondary pc with similar specs to rule it out, wouldnt be the first time a rma is broken as well. happend before, not necessary with cm, but i would test that first, maybe you got a psu tester, they are like 5 - 10 bucks and really come in handy.

after that i would say just get to trade your friends psu again see if it still works straight if so check the differences.

hope that helped in any which way.

Yea I think I might go with another PSU as this one is garbage lol. Aperintly the red light on the PSU is meant to be off. This is getting to the point of it being a joke, its beyond the hair pulling part if ya know what I mean.

Edit: Found this link to a sorta similar problem that was fixed via plugging it in somewhere else brb gonna go wall socket hunting.

try corsair, a bit more $$ but trust me the only brand psu's i would recommend so far besides bfg for lower end pcs if the budget has to be cut

MAD_J, sorry to hear you've had to endure all this hassle. Power issues are always a pain

I had a very similar issue come up when I first started building my DFI SLI-DR rig about a year ago. My Seasonic S12 500W just did not want to properly power on the board. I later switched to a Corsair 550VX and it worked fine. Come to find out these DFI boards are somewhat picky when it comes to power supplies. Perhaps your MSI motherboard is the same way? I'd go with hitman1985's suggestion and test the PSU on another machine. Also if you can, try getting your hands on a different branded power supply and see if that works.

Good luck
