Just got a new build, but I can't get the ram to run stable on stock specs.

Gear:
MB: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II 550 (stock, not OC)
RAM: Patriot PVS34G1600LLK

Stock settings are, 7-7-7-20 1.9V @ 1600mhz

Wich my bios is set up to, and also
HT freq. set to 2000mhz
TRFC: 190ns
CMD: 2T
NB Voltage 1.28v

Get error after 0 minutes in Prime95 and Memtest.

Since not even these setting for the RAM is OC'ing, I don't see why it won't run stable. I'm pretty new to configure BIOS, just keep that in mind

What could cause this, and more importantly, How can i fix it?

PS: Running at 1333mhz, its stable as a rock. 12+ hours prime95 blend test, no error

some people are complaining about some DDR3 memories not geting stable under stock specifics, I've read about OCZ Obsidian being unstable even in 1333 (it's a 1600 DDR3 too), sorry to me that already ordered that memory :/
but anyways, try contacting the store that you bought it or patriot for any explanation or swap.
I would try to raise the voltage and/or loose timings a little bit to get 1600.

As I mentioned, i am pretty new to, of a lack of a better word, over clocking. So loosening timings doesn't say much to me

May be solved anyways, set everything to auto in Bios except it's set to 1600mhz instead of 1333mhz which is default, and kept the 1.9v dram, and NB freq. to 2600mhz.

According to CpuZ it's now set to 11-11-11-30 1T

Memtest has run 38% and still no error. I'll come back if it error's out again. Or if Prime95 still errors, then there something else wrong I need to get fixed

Malakian, first fill out your system specs.

Second, AM3 processors are rated to run the RAM at 1334MHz. Running your RAM any higher than that is considered an overclock. Just because your RAM is 1600 MHz doesn't mean the IMC will be able to handle it.

Anyway, try bumping up your CPU-NB voltage some, that usually helps stability.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll try bumping up the CPU-NB voltage, and see if that helps. Mch? Whats that? (just got into OC'ing

I am at work atm, so can't check it. But if i get it stable at 11-11-11-30 1T.
Will it run the same performance wise, as if i had it at 7-7-7-20 2T wich is stock, but won't run stable as mentioned.

When I left for work the memtest was at 38% with 0 errors, so I'll recheck when i get home.

OT:
BlackOmega: I see you have the Thermaltake Big Typhoon cooler. How did you manage it to fit the AM3? I also have the same cooler, that I used for my old 939 build, but I cant figure out how I can use it on my new AM3 socket build.

I would see if you can run it at CAS7 @1333.... that would be much better than CAS11. As has been stated in some other threads, 1600 is not the native speed for ram with the AMD chipsets.

The NB voltage on my MB, can be set to 1.4v max, and its displayed in red, so I'm kind of nervous about that. Which voltage should I set it to aprox.?

BTW: Memtest error'ed with the other settings to. More stable then 7-7-7-20, but still pretty unstable.

Agreeing totally with you, been tweaking in 2 days now. Cant get it more stable then running blend on prime95 in like 5 mins, thats the best so far.

So ill just set it 1333mhz, and use the OC utility from asus, which got it up to 680mhz per slot stable, so thats just 120 mhz form the 1600mhz setting. Shouldn't be the biggest difference in performance I think.

WATCH THE TEMPS. On AMD Phenom II CPUs, the northbridge is integrated on the CPU which will generate heat as well as the CPU cores; take care when increasing the actual Northbridge voltage; in fact that is usually only done sparingly when overclocking the northbridge. Increasing the CPU-NB voltage might help, and you might want to consider increasing the RAM voltage. My RAM is rated at high-speed, low-timing (8-8-8-24, 1600mhz) settings at just 1.8v, but (though maybe it's because I'm using a 1T timing) I had to bump that to 1.95v in order to get total stability. Also, a few days later, I realized this was 0.05v above the maximum voltage for my kit, so I'm quite impressed

Thanks all for the input, but I just set it to
1333mhz
NB.freq 2600mhz
DRAM 1.5v
NB-CPU 1.2v
NB 1.2
7-7-7-20 2T

Ran 382% on memtest without error, so it's good now

OC'ed my Phenom a bit though. Raised multiplier to 18, to get 3.6ghz. And I set the Vcore to 1.425. Is that a bit much?

I am watching temp. my CPU is currently running 61 degrees Celsius at Prime95 max heat, max volt test.

Is that considered high on the Phenom?

Just have stock cooler atm, but I have extreme casecooling.
Switching to Big Typhoon as soon as I figure out how I can mount it on the AM3 and a better GPU cooler for my GTS250 soon.
