Quick Background: About a year ago I found a 1993 Macintosh Color Classic on the side of the road and had to pick it up, though I had no idea what I was going to do with it. When I built my new rig in December the thing was still collecting dust in the corner of my room. A little less than a month ago I found this site and got completely addicted to browsing the case mods section and seeing all of the awesome things that people do with their old cases. I also started getting into Folding@Home and realized that my Macbook wasn't really getting anything done. These things gave me the idea to run my old computer out of the Mac Color Classic case as a full time folding computer. So I went out to Home Depot, picked up what I needed (very little, it turns out) and got started on the build. It has only taken me about 3 hours to get to where I am now (which is pretty far into the mod) but I'll put this up in steps anyway. This is my first actual case mod so It hasn't turned out perfect

Also, I'm very sorry for the bad picture sprinkled in the post, i took them quickly so i could get back to whatever i was doing.

Heres the plan:
1: Gut all tech from the chassis
2: Fit in the micro ATX motherboard
3: Cut out acrylic window to fit monitor hole
4: Reassemble
5: Enjoy

I got carried away with the screwdriver so here are the first pictures I took of the mod

Case Gutting:

Gutting the case took a while and the documentation is only somewhat complete.

The naked CRT

The motherboard

The front plate with floppy drive and hard drive. The motherboard went in the bottom and the CRT and tan board went on top

Front and back reunited without anything between them

Here is the hard part.

I originally though that the motherboard would fit easily without any modding. That was a big mistake.

I thought i could only need to make a shallow cut with the plastic cutter to give it extra clearance

Image

But that didn't work

Next i brought out the hand saw for a little extra oomph

Image

but it just wouldn't fit

Image

so i brought out the not-so-exact power tools because I dont have the money for a jigsaw

Image

and after about an hour of tiny cuts i ended up with two gashes across
Image
the sides of the case and a motherboard between them

I accidentally cut all the way through on one side but it still fits into the front panel.
