I am looking to get the best total processing power, which of these CPU would be the better to buy?

There seems to be quite a difference in price for the 4960x and it doesn't seem to warrant the stats...

Anybody have an expert view on this, I must be overlooking something.

I'd go with the 4930k, the $500 price premium isn't worth going for the 4960x. (In my opinion)

4960x = Higher binned and more L3 cache.

Apparently the L3 cache allows for faster data access?

As for the price, its what I thought too.
Higher binned chips are usually the better overclocking chips, but that's not always the case.

Are you upgrading to socket 2011? If so, I'd follow MrTOOSHORT's advice and go with a 5930k, or 5820k and grab a 2011-v3 motherboard.

If you're going to spend the money on 4960x, get a 5960x instead.

Thanks for the advice.

Will my asus extreme maximus vi be compatible with a 5930k?

How much RAM are you talking about?

The Crucial (ugly) DDR4 kit is $209 for 16GB of 2133 at 1.2V.

All of the other kits that are 2666 or 3000 are at 1.35V which you can just jack up on the 2133 and overclock to.
