One of the things I found very surprising when I joined OCN, is all the love for Cylindrical or 'chunky' keyboards, and the hunting after old mechanical IBM keyboards.

I have a ton of old mechanical keyboards gathering dust in the garage, and couldn't imagine using them. I just feel clumsy and uncoordinated using them, so to me hauling out an old IBM mechanical would be like hauling out that 286 for gaming.

I understand wanting mechanical keys, but flat style keyboards just feel so much more elegant and efficient, for both gaming and typing to me.

Am I the only one? xD

Probably not. Many people like flat keys.

Though, cylindrical keycaps are different from the Modern sculpted design.

Cylindrical keycaps are actually ball shaped inside. Sculpted caps are more contoured to hold a finger.

Flat keys are also incredibly irritating for me as a gamer because there's little distinction between where the keys are. Beyond that, I hate the fact that they are not sloped to be more ergonomic.

Fair enough, it does come down to personal feel in the end.

I don't like the perfectly flat keys either, they need to have a slope to fit your finger, as long as they are thin.

I find that I can touchtype faster on the thin keys as well, so don't have an issue distinguishing where the keys are.

Have you ever checked the prices on those on ebay? You can make a pretty penny if you sold your spacesavers and other ibms. I've seen ones in good condition sell for around 200 usd.

Those keyboard you mentioned feel a lot better to type on than scissor switch or other dome logi keyboard.

I agree with the OP. Spherical sculpted keycaps is how we roll.

I think you're thinking of spherically sculpted keys (like the one pictured in my last post) compared with the spherical sculpting that you see in most keyboards made since the early-mid 1980s or so.

Yeah, I was more interested in the old mech boards.

I have typed on one of those Microsoft bords before. They're far from the worst keyboard around...
